I was at a reception or party outside at night where everything was lit up with beautiful lights.
There were these people there and I never really looked them in the face to see who they were. They were all standing in the background or shadows, but I knew that they were "from the sky".
One of them welcomed me as I entered this party and he handed me this stick. He was the leader of the people there but they all seemed to blend into him.
The stick was my reward for something. It was full of power. With it I could fly and go wherever I wanted.
I took the stick and immediately shot up into the sky where I had a great time flying to places I wanted to visit. I spent a long time flying over the ocean and I could even smell it!
Then I realized that my stick was running low on power and I was afraid I would come crashing down on the ground. I didn’t know what to do.
But these girls (friends) appeared and they let me have some of their power for my stick so that I could make it back to the party. I then flew back to the man at the party and returned my stick.
Note:
Although the dream seemed pleasant enough, on waking I felt very unsettled and almost disturbed because of it.
This dream is about your personal power. Dreams use word play, and the power sticks suggest that you have a belief that power sticks (like glue) somehow, as if power is not desirable, something you’d like to shrug off, from time to time, or give back, just as you gave back the power sticks at the end of the dream.
Dreams refer to the last day or two, so where was power an issue for you during this time?
Always look for opposites in a dream, as these help to define the issue your dream is addressing. You have a few sets of opposites in this dream. One is light and shadow. What is light is what is known. What is in the shadows is what is less known, what you keep partly hidden from yourself as well as from others. This dream looks at how much of your personal power you keep in the shadows, partly hidden from yourself and from others.
At the start of your dream, you were at a reception or party, and everything was lit up and beautiful. A reception is an event to welcome people. Your dream reception is about how YOU welcome or receive something in your life. What you are about to welcome, in this dream, is the power that has been hidden in the shadows.
You must have made a bit of a breakthrough in the two days before this dream, to suddenly find yourself ready to welcome something that you have kept hidden, even from yourself, until now.
You didn’t really look the shadow people in the face to see who they were. This suggests you still have a little denial, or unwillingness to see what you have kept in the shadows, away from public view as well as out of your sight. Again, word play enters the picture, as meeting someone face-to-face in a dream is often about facing up to something, meeting an aspect of yourself face-to-face. In your dream, you almost do this but not quite! Hence the slight denial.
So now we know you keep some of your power in the shadows, in the background, out of public view. Now, this can be deceiving, because what we keep in the shadows (or in our unconscious) sometimes acts powerfully in our lives without us realising. Unconscious power may be something you don’t use, or it may be something that unconsciously drives some of your attitudes and behaviours. One of the most powerful outcomes of interpreting your dreams is that you get to see and understand what you hide in the shadows, and, in doing this, bring it into the light of your full understanding, your full consciousness – the bright lights. This way, you can exercise more choice over your life, rather than be swayed in your decision making and actions by the unseen power of your unconscious mind.
The shadow people were from the sky. The sky suggests air, your mind (what you cannot see), your thoughts. If they had been from further out, beyond the air, from outer space, they would have represented what you had ‘alienated’ from yourself – but you haven’t pushed this energy that far away, merely into the shadowy realms of your unconscious mind.
One of them, the leader, welcomed you. So this is also about your leadership qualities that you keep hidden, qualities that you are almost ready to acknowledge in return. You noted that the other people all seemed to blend into him. He was the leader, after all. This is about your readiness to blend your scattered leadership qualities and bring them out into the open.
He gave you the power stick as a reward. You weren’t sure what for. Perhaps it’s the reward you get for being ready (almost) to blend those leadership qualities into your life. Along with leadership, you get the power.
Think about that. Along with leadership you get the power. How true does this seem to you? How do you feel about this? What has been your past experience (or what beliefs have people instilled in you) around leadership and power? What does that experience or belief tell you about power sticking to leaders, or leaders having a problem with power that sticks to them whatever else they do? Do you fear the power that you believe comes with leadership? Do you fear you won’t be able to ‘give it back’ or give it up for a while? Do you fear the responsibilities you think leadership brings?
Just look what you did with that power in the dream! Flying, in dreams, is often about reaching a higher potential. You have the power to reach a very high potential, if you choose.
The ocean, in a way, is the opposite to sky. High sky, deep ocean. In dreams, air often represents the mind, and water often represents emotions. The ocean, that huge repository of deep emotion, can also represent the unconscious. So you have the power to reach a very high potential from which you can view and sense (smell) emotional matters, or the depth and beauty of the unconscious. Getting in touch with your personal power will enable you to explore the higher potential of your mind and the depth of your emotions and unconscious.
Next in the dream, you are aware that your power is running low. This may represent a fear that your power, should you embrace it in your waking world, will run out and leave you to come crashing down, perhaps very publicly. This part of the dream may also reveal a fear that if you embrace your power you’ll burn out. Have you had trouble before in keeping your energies in balance? Or do you sometimes swing between highs and lows, between powerful adrenalin-fuelled adventures and crashing burnout lows?
Your dream offered two suggestions for overcoming this. One was accepting help (powerful input from others, or from your own female energy rather than from that full-on male leadership energy) and the other was giving back the power. Hmm. Do you think it’s ever a good idea to give back your power? No wonder you woke up feeling unsettled and disturbed!
Follow the clues in this interpretation to explore your beliefs and fears about leadership and power. It’s time to create more positive beliefs. It’s time to accept and use your leadership qualities in a powerful and positive way, without fear, yet in a balanced way, without burnout. And never, ever, give away your personal power, or return it to the shadows for fear of its light.
