DREAM #137

HOUSE ON FIRE

I was on a bus driving into my suburb and noticed that there was a laser war.

When I got to my house it was on fire. The front of the house was accessible but the back of the house was burning.

I was then back on the bus and noticed 2 dead people on there.

The dead girl then tried to attack me, but I stabbed her (like you see in vampire movies.)

INTERPRETATION

The opening of a dream usually states the situation a dream is addressing. Your dream opens with a war, a conflict. This dream is about a conflict in your life that has grown to warlike proportions. Since a dream reflects the last 24-48 hours, where were you feeling under attack, or even in attack mode, in your life?

Dreams address your unconscious as well as your conscious feelings, so your first response may be that you weren’t aware of feeling any conflict, or perhaps only a little, but dig deeper and you’ll realise something was really bothering you, whether or not you were acknowledging it or letting it show.

The point of exploring negative feelings (like conflict or attack and defence) that come up in a dream is to understand how those unconscious feelings are affecting your life. The unconscious mind is far more powerful than the conscious mind, so it can undermine our best intentions. The point is not to get dragged down in negative feelings, but to visit them for long enough to gain the understanding necessary to transform them into something positive.

So let’s do that!

Your dream pictures the weapon of war as a laser. Personal associations are most important when interpreting a dream symbol. What are your associations with lasers? Are you a fan of science fiction laser war heroes? Do you work with lasers? Have you got a laser gadget? If you could sum up the personality of a laser, what would you say? You might say, “invisible, piercing, accurate”. Look at the three words you have chosen and ask yourself if any of these describe a situation in your life.

This dream takes you into your suburb, so this is about an issue that is ‘very close to home’. It is about you personally, of course, as all dreams are, and it may also relate to your home situation or the kind of community in which you live (for example, community values or outlook on life). And we know you feel conflicted about this.

Lasers are invisible rays and their intention, in war, is focussed destruction. Although they are invisible in transit, you can see them when they hit their target. And, in a war situation, you can see the target destruct in a ball of light, heat or fire. My feeling is that the lasers represent invisible, destructive thoughts and feelings, focussed on a target. Have a think about this:

There's a message in each dream. Don't let your message go unread! In the last two days, have you felt at the receiving end of someone’s destructive, piercing, (invisible –unvoiced?) feelings? And here’s a deeper question: in the last two days, have you beamed out destructive, piercing thoughts or feelings towards a specific person or situation (target)?

Summarising so far, in the last two days you’ve felt an inner conflict, possibly around your home life or around the kind of values you see in your neighbourhood community. This conflict has manifested because of destructive thoughts or feelings aimed towards someone or something – and these destructive thoughts or feelings have hit target, causing actual destruction and upset.

In the next part of your dream you arrive at your house. This represents the very centre of your being. You can’t get much closer to home than this! It was on fire. YOU are on fire! Fire is an energy. It can be positive: feeling enthusiastic, passionate, perhaps cleansing in the sense of burning away old stuff to clear the way for new growth. And it can be negative: angry, burning with anger, close to burnout. Since there’s a war going on in your dream, the fire in your house is most likely your own anger.

Have you felt angry because you have felt under ‘invisible’ attack from someone, or have you felt angry and then invisibly directed those anger rays to the target of your anger?

Common responses to feeling under attack are defence or escape. Animals generally respond to attack in one of these ways – defence or escape, fight or flight. These responses are instinctive to animals and to us too, as humans. It’s in our biology. But that doesn’t mean that it’s the best response. In today’s more evolved world, we look for peaceful win-win situations, we seek mediation, we do everything we can to avoid war and everything we can to promote peace and harmonious living. Hmm. Well, maybe in an ideal world! Think about this and see how you can apply this to your personal situation.

Your dream shows your anger is burning you up, and the situation you find yourself in feels destructive. Is fighting back, is attacking, is directing your invisible anger, is showing your anger solving anything? Is it being creative or is it adding to destruction?

Although you will be able to relate this conflict to a situation in your life, the real cause of conflict is within yourself. Whatever is happening in your life, or however you are personally interpreting (seeing, feeling) what is happening in your life, is causing you deep inner conflict. The place to resolve this is within yourself. Resolve your own conflicted feelings, and the waking life conflict will automatically resolve.

In your dream, the front of your house was accessible but the back of your house was burning. Interpreted, this means you come across to people as accessible (your façade, your front, how you appear to the world), but deeper inside you’re inaccessible and angry. So you’re keeping your private self inaccessible to others (or to some others, and perhaps even to yourself). You’re trying to keep that anger hidden while remaining accessible (approachable) to the very people you feel angry about.

Can you see that trying to keep that anger hidden and inaccessible doesn’t stop it from invisibly beaming out and causing destruction? Unconscious anger finds its way into the world with devastating effect. Angry thoughts that you think you keep to yourself, hit target with a big bang!

Your dream moves on to pinpoint the source of your anger. Again you’re on the bus. A bus is a form of communal transport, so it probably represents your community (as it is your neighbourhood bus) or society in general. When you travel by bus, lots of other people are travelling the same way. So this dream is about your involvement in your community or society – your feelings about being part of a group rather than your feelings about being an individual.

You noticed two dead people, but although you think they’re dead, at least one of them isn’t, because she tries to attack you. What is dead in a dream represents something that you have killed off (or is over, in the past) in your life. It might be an attitude or belief you have ‘killed off’ or a job, relationship – anything. Your dream shows you two things you have ended – but also shows you that at least one of these issues isn’t as ‘dead and gone’ as you had thought.

So this is about something you’ve tried to end, that you thought was over, yet that is still haunting and hurting you. You stabbed her ‘like you see in vampire movies’, suggesting that you felt the not-so-dead girl was like a vampire. Parasitic, drawing on your life blood, converting you in a single bite into something bad – where, in your life, have you felt like this? What situation or person has left you feeling drained and infected with bad energy? In your dream you try to put an end to this by stabbing her. Have you put an end to it, finally, because you’ve seen the light in this dream? Or, in stabbing her, have you responded like-to-like, a stab in return for a stabbing vampire bite, stab for stab, continuing the laser war?

How did you feel at the end of the dream? If you felt that stabbing the girl ensured that she was finally and absolutely dead and the laser war was over, then this is your solution. In other words, put the past to rest forever, extinguish the anger, and move forward, post-fire, into fresh growth, sending out positive thoughts, feelings, rays, vibes. If however, at the end of your dream, you felt the war was still on, then take the time to review this interpretation so you can understand your situation and change the way you respond. Mediate your inner conflict, put an end to things that drain you, suck you dry, (or cause burnout) and move forward in a positive, replenished, new way. In short, transform negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

Visualisation:

Visualise the house on fire, as you saw it in the dream, and then visualise a sudden soothing rain, complete with rainbow, extinguish all the flames. As you watch, visualise the house transform into a beautiful home, one that has the style, feel and personality of the new, positive you. Add uplifting loving light rays beaming out from the house, touching everyone and everything all around. Smile, add all the good feelings you want to bring into your life.

How often to do this:

Do this visualisation 20 times a day for a week, ten times a day for the second week and twice a day for the next month.

How does this work?

This practice ensures that change occurs for you in the best possible way – a positive healing transformation. Your dream expressed your waking life situation using dream language – the language of your unconscious mind. By reliving the dream with changes, or by transforming one of the dream symbols (or by reliving and intensifying the dream in the case of a dream with a positive ending) you are using vision and feeling to reprogram your unconscious beliefs.
