INTERPRETATION
How do you see yourself? How do you see yourself today? How would you like to see yourself instead? What image would you like to project? How do you see yourself changing in the future? This dream is about your image, the way you see yourself in the world, and your fears around this.
You liked the image of yourself wearing the colourful, Indian-style clothing so much that you didn’t want to spoil it. Is this a current image or one you envisage for yourself? Let’s find out:
Start by asking yourself what message these clothes give. If you met someone for the first time and she was dressed like this, what message would you get about her personality and her approach to life? What kind of person chooses to dress this way?
The colour purple was predominant. Have you got any purple clothes? If so, how do you feel when you wear this colour? Do you ever wear a bandana? If so, how do you feel when you wear one? What makes you choose to wear a bandana one day, and not another?
The feeling I get from this image is of flow (the long, flowing clothes) and vitality (the colours) and an eastern attitude or spirituality (Indian clothes). The feeling you get may be different, and since this is your dream, it’s the feeling you get from this image that is most important. By way of example, I’m going to use my feeling about this image, so you can follow the interpretation, substituting your own feeling for this image.
This image, (as seen in the mirror), is one you’re happy with, at least to start with. It is flowing, full of vitality, perhaps with an eastern-style spirituality. Many people see purple as a colour denoting spirituality, as it is the colour of the crown chakra. Since you wore a purple bandana on your head, this may well be a dream symbol for spirituality and energies associated with the crown chakra.
Is this the image you project in your life – flowing, full of vitality, spiritual? Or is it the image you would like to project? Or is this an image you’re contemplating revealing, but feeling unsure about?
You mention, in your notes, moving to a new place. Which place would this dream version of yourself suit best – your current place, the new place you’ve got in mind, or somewhere else? Which place would be the best match?
The key message from your dream is to consider how you feel about this flowing, full of vitality, spiritual image, and to consider whether you’d like to become more like this in life, or whether it’s an image that is fleetingly attractive but not really for you. Take some time considering this.
The second key message from your dream is that certain fears may be affecting your decision-making, so let’s explore this next:
Your dream throws up a dilemma: you can’t be like this AND be pregnant or you’ll feel trapped. You solve the dilemma in the dream by choosing against the pregnancy. Well, actually you choose against being fat. So you really do want to have and maintain that image! What about the option where you have the baby and then get your slim image back afterwards? (There are always more options than the ones we immediately see in front of us!)
Pregnancy, in a dream, often represents creativity or something new you are considering. The baby is the germ of the idea you are growing deep inside, preparing to birth into the world.
What new idea are you considering, and why do you think it will ruin this flowing, full of vitality, spiritual image you envisage for yourself? In your dream you feel “trapped” at this stage. Where, at the time of your dream, did you feel trapped, or about to be trapped?
In the dream you decide to have an abortion, so, at the time of your dream, you were definitely in abort mode. What idea did you feel like aborting?
Here are two opposites: ‘trapped’ and ‘flowing’. There’s the feeling of being trapped, versus the flowing feeling of the clothes. Where you can identify two opposites in a dream this often defines the issue or conflict you’re trying to resolve. Your issue or conflict is about feeling trapped instead of flowing. The idea (pregnancy) is there already, so there’s obviously something enticing about it. The question is, will it ‘spoil’ this lovely, flowing image you have of yourself?
Do you think that new idea you are germinating might be the idea of moving to a different place, as mentioned in your notes? Or do you think it refers to another idea you have been germinating? Which idea brings up a fear of being trapped, a fear of losing this image you would like to project? (Your answer will help you to identify the idea the dream is referring to.)
That dream fear of being trapped may be a reliable indicator that following through on that new idea will end in feeling trapped, and that it’s better to abort the idea now. On the other hand, our feelings or fears can result from past experiences and bear no real relevance to how things would turn out if we were brave enough to carry them out. You can tell the difference by asking questions. In your case these questions are:
Would you really like to express more of this flowing, vital, spiritual image in your life? If so, what fears come up, what objections (abortions) do you raise to avoid feeling trapped? When was the last time you felt trapped like this and what happened as a result? When was the very first time you ever felt trapped like this and what was the result? It’s the very first experience of feeling trapped that programmed your unconscious mind to slip into abort-mode at the slightest whiff of a similar situation. Knowing this, how do you feel about an event so long ago affecting the decisions you’re trying to make today?
So, will you follow through on that new idea or not? Your dream only gives you two options: have the baby (do the idea) and get fat (lose the image) OR abort the baby (don’t do the idea) and stay slim (keep the image). But remember, a dream reflects only the options you think you have, so a great piece of advice is to look for other options. Here’s one: have the baby (do the idea) and then get slim again (and keep the image). Translate this to your waking life situation: how could you do this? Is this an option that resolves the conflict and allows you to have it all?
DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE
Dialogue
Discover more and uncover your best solution by doing a Dream Alchemy dialogue between Sarong Lady (you, as seen in the mirror) and Baby (in early pregnancy):
Baby: “Hello. I love the way you look!”
Sarong lady: “… reply in here ”
Baby: “...let baby reply here”
Sarong lady: “… continue in this way”
How to do this
Give yourself no longer than 20 minutes. When you do this exercise do NOT think! Don’t plan ahead. Just let whatever happens happen. Let the two entities speak to each other on paper using whatever words come up. It’s a bit like writing a film script or play – but without the brain being involved.
How does this work?
By not thinking, by keeping the words flowing, you are letting your right brain and unconscious mind do most of the work. They created the original dream so they know what these symbols mean for you. They will reveal. You will be surprised.
