Subject: Bank Robbery

Yvonne

10:20 22/04/2001

I was connected in some way with a bank robbery although I could not see the robbery taking place.

It was my job to put the money into the bank: Westpac Bank. I was walking round town looking for the bank.

I then thought it would be better not to put the money in the bank, because they would wonder where all the money came from. I could also see U.S. money in the bag.

Next I was in the car with my husband and the bag of money. We were going down this road and I could see a car accident. The police were attending to this accident, so we took another road because I didn't want the police to see my bag of money.

The road we took felt very different. I had to drive my car against something to open the road up. When I got to this place it seemed to have something to do with sport.

Overview Interpretation & Dream Alchemy Practice suggestion

INTERPRETATION

This dream is about how you have kept certain values and talents hidden for fear of being seen or recognised for your experience. This approach has recently resulted in a crisis that has caused you to face your resistance and work through this to open a way forward.

A bank is a place where money and other valuables are stored. The money that is stored in a bank is usually invested to increase returns. The bank in your dream most likely represents you – your store of values and talents. (A talent is a valuable asset, something you can invest in to secure increased returns. Talents are assets we can put to work to increase the value of our services for ourselves and for others.)

At the start of the dream you knew you were connected to a bank robbery, meaning you realized, at some level, that you had robbed yourself of expressing certain values or talents. You say you were “connected in some way” although you “could not see” the robbery taking place. This shows that you were just getting in touch with, or connecting with, the feeling or knowledge that you had robbed yourself in some way, but you could not quite see how this had happened. It’s like realizing you’re responsible for the role you played in this self-robbery but you’ve yet to ‘see’ how this came about, or why.

There's a message in each dream. Don't let your message go unread! In the next part of your dream you say “It was my job …” Again this shows you accepting responsibility. It may also hint that your dream is about a job or career that “was your job” but which you are reluctant to continue with or admit to. So, you’ve robbed yourself and you’re reluctant to reinvest those values or talents in a different situation. Westpac is an Australian bank, and you saw US money in the bag. Are you from the US, or have you worked in the US and are currently residing in Australia? If so, in moving to Australia, did you ‘rob’ yourself of certain values, perhaps American values, perhaps values associated with your career, perhaps your valuable talents, and have you been reluctant to ‘reinvest’ these or even own up to your valuable American credentials and skills in Australia?

In the dream you thought they might wonder where all the money came from. You saw the US money and this was something you didn’t want to draw attention to in the dream. Why have you chosen to hide “all that money”, all those values and talents from your American experience, during your time in Australia?

In the dream you do think about putting the money in the bank at first. You know the goal (Westpac) but you spend time looking for it rather than finding it. Have you been looking for a job or a way to invest your values /talents or reinstate your values here in Australia, but been unable to find this?

Of course, spending time “looking for” instead of finding can be a delay tactic, and as soon as you did envisage handing over the money (finding the job or situation) you backed off for fear of “all this money” being questioned. Were you fearful that if someone discovered just how talented or valuable you are, they would demand more from you than you wanted to give? Or were you fearful that they would wonder where all these American values and experiences came from and how they would fit with Australian expectations? One way or another, your dream shows you’ve robbed yourself of expressing your values or talents and, although you accept responsibility for this, you’re not keen to reinvest or have these values or talents seen or recognised in Australia.

You may be thinking, No, I want a job! Consciously, yes, but dreams reveal your unconscious thoughts, feelings and beliefs when there is a conflict. If you haven’t found that job you’re seeking, or if you haven’t found a way to express your values, then your unconscious mind is successfully acting against your conscious wishes. Interpreting your dream helps you to identify why your unconscious mind has a different agenda. Your unconscious mind’s agenda is to ‘protect’ you from expressing your values/talents in Australia for fear of what might otherwise be revealed about where ‘all this’ comes from. Are you wary that your US qualifications or experiences don’t match Australian expectations?

Next in the dream you are driving the car, with your bag of money you don’t want anyone to see, and you see an accident. The accident represents a crisis you either anticipate or have just met. You know this ‘road’ you are taking is not really getting you anywhere other than into crisis, but you’re still insistent that no-one witnesses your values/talents. What to do? Perhaps this is the crisis really – the question of how to resolve this conflict.

By this stage of your dream you’ve experienced a breakthrough. It’s in your words, “I could see…” You’ve moved from knowing there’s a connection but not seeing it, to seeing your situation more clearly. The situation you see is that yes, you have put yourself in a difficult situation because not wanting anyone to see your values /talents has only ended in a crash/crisis. Or maybe that’s a cash crisis (lol). How are you going to get ahead?

You resolve this, in your dream, by taking a road that felt very different. This shows your unconscious mind taking a very different approach. What a win! First it was hard work as you had to drive yourself against a resistance but then the road opened up and you found yourself at a sporting place – isn’t that where you win?

In other words, you release your drive and motivation and apply yourself to overcome your inner resistance to moving ahead and this opens everything up for you. Now you can reach that conscious goal (sport) because your unconscious mind is no longer working against you.

There may be more symbolism in that sporting place. Perhaps you can see the positives in team spirit, bringing your US ‘team’ experiences to play with Australian ‘team’ experiences. Perhaps you can be more open to playing the ‘game’, perhaps not worrying about winning and losing, just about being there and playing your part. As the last part of your dream is vague, “something to do with sport”, the interpretation is less precise, but you can ‘play’ with the idea of sport and what it means to you to help you see this attainable goal more clearly.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

Visualisation:

Visualise the dream from the moment you broke through the last of the resistance. Feel that release into easy and joyous driving, perhaps even feeling that you are flying, uplifted, towards that sports place. Feel the openness of the road, the open, flowing feelings you have within you. See and feel your talents flowing from you, being expressed confidently. Visualise yourself arriving at that sports place and feel a warm welcome – everything is good, everyone has been waiting for you to turn up with your talents and play the game, and here you are. It feels so good.

How often to do this:

Do this visualisation 20 times a day for a week, ten times a day for the second week and twice a day for the next month.

How does this work?

This practice ensures that change occurs for you in the best possible way – a positive healing transformation. Your dream expressed your waking life situation using dream language – the language of your unconscious mind. By reliving and intensifying the positive ending of your dream you are using vision and feeling to consolidate the positive resolution of your dream so that this flows on into your waking life.

Hi Yvonne - what do banks mean to you?

What are you feeling robbed of at present? What are you robbing yourself of that you would like to do but aren't?

What does money represent to you?

What does U.S. mean to you - could also be "us".

Westpac - West symbolises a need for retreat and silence, it is home of Bear and relates to feminine energy.

Pac - Pact perhaps.

Husband - men symbolise your masculine energy and your logical, rational way of doing things - who was driving at this point?

Car accidents symbolise a need to stop generally.

Police - Authority - but what do Police mean to you.

Taking a new road, new path in life, new way of seeing life that feels strange?

Cars - usually represent your drive and motivation in life.

Get the sense that there is something you are currently "up against" that you may need to deal with in order for your path (life) to open up.

Sport - depending on the type of Sport, could be team or solo, or could relate to an expression like "being a good sport".

Just want to add that for me money symbolises my freedom and if this were mine I would be asking myself "what do I feel is currently robbing me of my freedom?'

Hi Dream Surgeon

Thank you for your reply and your interesting questions.

Yes I do feel robbed, or rather robbbing myself. I do tend to give to others before myself. I was driving the car, so maybe the dream is telling me to take a different road, which would probably feel strange anyway. Police represents something to fear. Bank means to me a type of faith, as in "banking" on something. Money also means freedom to me, so does the money in the dream mean that I am going to get my freedom.

I know it is up to me to give to me to get my freedom.

Once again thank you

My pleasure Yvonne.

Perhaps your dream is telling you to take control of your life, Bank on your faith in your Self? Money is freedom in many ways, allowing us the freedom to do what we want, whenever we want. Without it we usually feel restricted. Money can be a symbol in our lives to show us when we are stuck and when we are flowing, i.e. when we don't seem to have any and when we do.

Perhaps it is also showing you, as you were totally in control in this dream, driving and decided not to place your money/freedom elsewhere that by banking on your faith in yourself, and by trusting your feminine energy and all it represents will open your life up for you and give you more freedom.
