Subject: The Nile River

I was running to the airport to go someplace. The airport was a crowded big room, like a third-world country airport. Actually more like a waiting room; people were standing around looking busy.

There was another door that took us to the part where one bought tickets. I realized I had no money. Then I spotted my oldest son David and asked him if I could borrow some money. At the time I thought I needed a little over $100.00 for the ticket and spending money.

When he asked me how much I needed, I said, “Can you give me $2000.00?” He said he couldn't. Then again, I thought I would need $600 or $700.

In the next scene I was standing on a terrazzo of a grayish, cement building (maybe 4 or 5 stories up). Other tourists were there for the purpose of sight-seeing. We were looking down on a river which I realized was The Nile. It was flowing from left to right in my vision but I had no sense of Cardinal points.

Everything looked gray. No colors. No vegetation. I became aware there was 'no beauty' and looked around to find some. Then I noticed some plants in big stone planters but they had no color either.

A wind came up and sprayed a mist of water from the Nile all the way up to our floor. This was sudden and unexpected. Then everything was calm again. I don't think I got wet.

Note 1: In an earlier dream I saw the Nile flowing from West to East across the whole North Africa continent. It felt so right! Even when I woke up I thought of the Nile as flowing in that direction. I had to shake myself up and say: Duh! It flows from South to North.

Note 2: A recurrent dream theme is not being prepared and not knowing what I need. I think of the Nile as the Great Life Force – spirituality.

Hi Jazzed,

Just starting this one off as this is such an interesting dream:

You thought you needed $100, but you asked David for much more. He didn't have it to give, but did (presumably) end up giving you more than $100.

I immediately thought of $100 as 100%, but it may have another personal meaning to you. If we look at your son as a belief within you (what main belief do you feel he would represent?), or as a younger aspect of yourself, then we see the dream as you asking more of yourself than you can give.

Is it possible that you sometimes ask more than 100% of yourself?

I ask this because the theme of your dream is running and not being prepared ... running on less than 100%? Are there issues of perfection? (Can't do a job properly unless it's done 100%?)

Third world ... running on debt .. under energy?

I also ask this same question because of the direction of flow of the Nile and its lack of energy, vibrancy and colour.

Movement often flows from left to right in a dream as a symbol of movement from our INNER world to our OUTER world. (The left side in dreams tends to correlate to the right brain and/or Yin qualities and vv for right.)

You see the Nile as the Great Life Force and Spirituality. So, I am questioning whether your life force and spirituality, flowing from your inner world out into your outer world, is jaded (oopps .. perhaps that's green... GRAY) as you are demanding too much of yourself.

We cannot give as much colour and energy to our outer world if we are demanding too much from ourselves.

I also wondered whether there was a play on words: Nile - Nihil ?

Though you DID have the "wind of change" whipping up some emotional stuff (water) at the end ... so it feels as if something is shifting here for you.

Okay - this is only a beginning - anyone else like to ask some questions and give suggestions?

Hope this entices the detective in you to put some of these clues together ...

Dear Jane,

I don't know about 100%. The numbers didn't really mean anything to me.

My son represents love, protection, competency, help. Could be what Jung called Animus.

I also asked myself if the Nile could be Denial... but then again I see it more as life giving.

Being on a terrazzo made me think of being exposed, in the open not sheltered, vulnerable...

I recently embarked on a new spiritual path and was trying to relate it to that. But I could be all wrong.

Thank you so much for your help. I read your other interpretations and I thought you were really good.

Love & Joy, Jazzed

Hi Jazzed,

Yes, I also thought of the Nile as a possible dream pun on 'denial' as I was replying to you above, so there may be a resonance there. (I know, you discounted denial, but, unfortunately .. that's the nature of denial...such is the joy of life's smile-full drama.)

Yes, you say you were trying to relate the dream to your new spiritual path. That's totally relevant. I see each dream as pertaining to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of a person's life: each being an expression of the same truth. So, you can interpret on whichever level ... and, most powerfully, on all four as they interact simultaneously [being of each other].

Stay with the dream .. it is unfolding as surely as rivers flow while you allow their waters to touch you ... as you did, in the dream.

Dear Jane, I don't know what else to say about my dream. If you have any more insights I would appreciate you sharing with me. Sincere thanks, Jazzed

Shooting Star

Hi Jazzed,

Some thoughts and yes, questions:

The amount of money (security and freedom) you thought you wanted but when spoken was actually more. Are you seeking more security and freedom for yourself than you think? Is there where the denial could be coming in? Are you wanting more freedom and security from your life than you are currently giving yourself or allowing yourself to have?

Running to the airport to go somewhere - Is there something in your life you are eagerly wanting to take off i.e an idea, a project or are you wanting to take off and soar to new heights? or is there some aspect/layer of Self you are wanting to be rid of as in take off?

Are you feeling like you are not totally prepared yet to do whatever it is you want to do?

You say others are standing around "looking busy" were they actually busy or were they just pretending they were? Do you feel like you are standing still?

Are you wanting to obtain your "ticket to freedom?"

Are you needing to give all that you see your Son as providing you with to yourself? i.e. love, protection etc.

Was your life at this time feeling dull and grey, with very little growth occuring and an inability to find beauty in all things?

There is a Native American term "to walk in Beauty" and it refers to walking our Earth walks (our lives) in balance and harmony and in finding beauty in all we encounter, not unlike a small child does.

Even though you say here that you have embarked on a new spiritual path is it bringing beauty, balance and harmony into your life?

Some thoughts on directions from my perspective:-

East is where the sun rises, the beginning of a new day, new beginnings.

West is where it sets, the end of the day which brings about the night and usually reflection, introspection, sleep and dreams.

South is the direction of childlike energy and healing.

North is the direction of elder energy, the road of Spirit and wisdom.

Whilst your logical mind may think something is supposed to run in a certain direction, i.e. when you woke from a previous dream convinced the river ran as it did in your dream the direction it or anything runs in the dream can be an indication of which way your life is heading.

e.g. I was hesitant about leaving a long term relationship. Eagle turned up one day as I was debating what to do. He circled three times above my head and went to the south-east. I knew like him it was time to leave and I landed up living south-east of where I had been.

The river Nile in this dream is running, just as you are (to the airport) but you have no sense of cardinal directions - as in your dream about Florence, are you feeling directionless?

Also in relation to feeling vulnerable and exposed it is usually when you let yourself be that the most growth, healing and change occurs.
