My best, dearest friend died recently. I cried for a long time. She lived in Poland but we still kept in touch. Her death was very unexpected. She got sick and died in a few days.

After she died I dreamed that I was in Poland and we were about to meet in the park to go for an excursion on the bicycles. We met but my bicycle broke in half and something happened to my saddle. My friend fixed it.

Overview Interpretation & Dream Alchemy Practice suggestion

OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION

Hi Magdalena,

What a beautiful dream! In the dream your friend was able to heal what was broken.

Did you ride bicycles together, or is the bicycle purely a dream symbol?

I’m sure you felt the breaking in half was reflecting your own feelings of the relationship – and yourself - being broken in half by your friend’s sudden death.

Dreams often use puns. Bicycle may refer to the two of you (bi = 2) and the broken cycle of your relationship. I see the ‘sad’ in ‘saddle’.

In the dream, your friend healed what was broken. She fixed what was sad (fixed the saddle).

This dream helps you to see that grief will be healed. It is the natural cycle of things.

Whether you friend was there in spirit in your dream or whether your dream was suggesting that your friend had the kind of qualities that would be helpful for you to emulate to accelerate healing is unknown.

Your dream shows how we truly live on after death as our best qualities are honoured by those we leave behind who continue to be inspired, to learn.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

If you do ride, Magdalena, you might like to plan a cycle trip in memory of your friend. Or perhaps you could buy a new bicycle for yourself or for someone in need, in memory of the relationship. This helps in healing the grief.

You may also wish to write a poem or make a collage to encapsulate the attitudes you have learned from your friend that you wish to take forward in your own life. Keep it close by to help transform the grief into a guiding light.

Hi Magdalena,

I'm sorry to hear of your friend's sudden death.

Our dreams often engage in word play and some I see in your dream are two cycles (bicycle) which could be talking about the cycles of life and death, or of yours and your friends life cycles being divided as in separation, or split in two which could also be emphasised by the bicycle breaking in two. The saddle - I certainly see sad, but your friend made everything OK.

There are always many layers to dreams and these are just a few ideas. Does this give you a few clues or ideas to further explore? (on your ex-cursion)
