Subject: No Lights

Saetha

09:16 18/09/2000

I enter a room, always dark, usually a room in my house or some other familiar place. I try to turn on a light, but it won't turn on.

I start to grow nervous and I try again and again to turn on a light, but nothing will happen. I am still a little afraid of the dark, but my fear seems to grow worse in the dream. Nothing unusual happens, most of the time, but it's very uncomfortable to be stuck in a dark room and have no power to turn on a light.

Note:

This is a recurring dream situation which has been going on for a few years.

Hi Saetha

Is there any situation in your life where you feel "kept in the dark" so to speak. E.G. Situation where a person/s withhold information from you on purpose to keep you from knowing of something that you should know? A control/power issue?

The part in your dream where there is no power to turn on a light - this could represent how you feel about "being in the dark" - that you feel no personal power is available to you to deal with the situation.

These are just some ideas to work with. Let us know how you go.

I have often thought that this situation represented "being in the dark," as you said, but I can't find anything in my waking life that would suggest this.

I do notice that this dream resurfaces whenever I feel a little depressed. It's not often, but this dream tends to pop up when I get a little blue.

Thanks!

Hi Saetha,

Adding to what you and Belinda have said already:

It seems the dream reflects the feeling that you're finding it hard to 'see the light side' of things when you feel you are in the 'darkness' of a slight depression.

Feelings of depression, or simply feeling down, often occur because we don't feel totally empowered in an area of life.

We may feel 'depressed' (pushed down in our energy) through inter-relationship with another person, for example, if we feel there is an imbalance in power or expression in the relationship.

Your dream, Saetha, features rooms rather than people. Rooms in dreams can symbolise areas of the mind. In which areas of your life/ mind might you be finding it hard, at times, to 'lighten up' or to 'see the light'?
