Subject: A man dies from illness!

Monika

20:30 03/06/2003

I was in a hospital as a visitor or nurse of a man who was lying in bed. I took his hand and then the doctor told me that this man was suffering from an illness that cannot be cured and that he will have to die soon. Unfortunately if you touch the man you can get this illness too.

I said that I had touched him but not very much. The doctor got frightened and told me to go home and stay in quarantine because I might have this illness and would probably suffer and die from that.

Overview Interpretation & Dream Alchemy Practice suggestion

OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION

Hi Monika,

Death in dreams is usually about letting old beliefs and ways of being end (die) so that new beliefs and new ways of being can begin (be born). Change is a necessary part of growth and to change we first need to let old beliefs die away.

On the other had there are times in our lives when we may end situations or let go of plans, skills and dreams prematurely. In this case, our dreams may use death as a symbol to reflect what we are putting an end to prematurely.

The man in your dream probably represents something about your outer world – your Yang, or your left brain.

Your dream focuses on touch. We get ‘in touch’ with our feelings, ‘in touch’ with what ails us (represented by illness in your dream) and ‘in touch’ with a situation or problem in order to understand it.

So touching the man in your dream is good! It symbolises getting in touch with what is dying off – particularly in touch with something that is ailing within you, and probably concerning your outer world – so that you can feel it, understand it and make decisions from there. Your dream seems to suggest a time for letting go, for feeling (touching) rather than isolating (quarantining) what you need to look at.

You will find it helpful to read ‘Death & Murder’ in Dream Alchemy, pages 283-8.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

Visualisation:

Visualise touching the man in your dream and then feeling a healing golden light surrounding you both. Visualise the man transforming into a vibrant, beautiful, healthy person and visualise the same for yourself.

How often to do this:

Do this visualisation 20 times a day for a week, ten times a day for the second week and twice a day for the next month.

How does this work?

This practice will ensure that change occurs for you in the best possible way – a positive healing transformation. Your dream expressed your waking life situation using dream language – the language of your unconscious mind. By reliving the dream with changes, or by transforming one of the dream symbols (or by reliving and intensifying the dream in the case of a dream with a positive ending) you are using vision and feeling to reprogram your unconscious beliefs.

More details on Visualisation as a Dream Alchemy Practice in: “Dream Alchemy”, by Jane Teresa Anderson, pages 329 – 330.

Hi Monika,

I read your second dream first (Trauma) and I focussed on the "in touch" aspects of that dream.

Then I came here and saw the touch symbol again.

Death in a dream is often about death of the old for birth of the new. There are times to let go of the old ... though there are also times when we let go prematurely, or let go of something valuable to us.

The sense that "he will have to die soon" in your dream - the sense of finality - does suggest this man represents something you are ready to let go.

I feel the significance is that you TOUCHED him in the dream - you "got in touch with" what is ailing and what will inevitably pass away.

Sometimes we can only let go of a thing once we understand it. We can hang on and hang on and then suddenly understand the whole process - and then we are ready to let go. To understand we need to "get in touch".

This seems to be about something you have previously not allowed yourself to FEEL. The very word 'quarantine' means isolating .... isolating yourself from feeling?

What have you quarantined from yourself in waking life? What feelings have you isolated yourself from?

Your dream equates 'fear of getting in touch' with 'quarantine' .....

May these thoughts help complete your healing (hospital) Monika ... (consider alongside your Trauma dream).

Hi Jane Teresa!

What fits to what you say is that I recently talked to a clairvoyant man and he told me that I am suppressing myself, I am like a gardener of Bonsai-trees and my energy is not in a free flow. I thought a lot about this and maybe my dream is referring to this?! Maybe I need to get in touch with the life and allow all my feelings to come out - even if they are "bad" feelings. I think this also has to do a lot with self-acceptance. I am just not sure how I can manage this and if I do have activly to do something to support this process. Do you think my thoughts go in the right direction?

Hi Monika,

I think you're on the right track.

Really there is no such thing as a 'good' or 'bad' feeling ... only inasmuch as we choose to judge them as such.

Really there are only feelings ... genuine feelings that need to be felt and understood.

When we hold onto feelings (repress them) the action can spill over to other holdings-on. We retract from life or don't grow to our full potential - as you have described.

You ask whether you need to do anything to support the process of building self-acceptance.

Some say it is sufficient to recognise the fact (for example, from a dream), but my work is directed towards working with the symbols of your dreams and the issues and beliefs they reflect to make changes to the unconscious beliefs that are holding you back.

These are the powerful dream alchemy practices. To fully understand this I suggest you get a copy of Dream Alchemy.

You may also wish to consider becoming a Dream Network Member as you can then discuss your dreams at much greater depth and security within the private Members' Forum. There you have access to very well informed members who will help you with dream alchemy practices and support you through the process.

Have a think about it.

Hi Jane Theresa!

I thought a lot about this:

"When we hold onto feelings (repress them) the action can spill over to other holdings-on."

This is exactly the case for me. The clairvoyant man told me that I have a lack of trust in the life and therefore I use control to overcome my fears. I realized that to be controlling in my life and relationships with people does not fulfill me and give me the full contact that I am searching for. Therefore I try to hold on and have problems to let go of situations and people in my life - even when the time is ready to do this. Where can I learn more about Dream Alchemy to solve my issues?

Thanks, Monika

Hi again!

I just want to say that SUDDENLY, I dont know how - the meaning of this dream became clear to me...I´ve lived the "wrong self" all my life, the perfect and nice. This part is ill and will die soon and I get in touch with the "true self" with my real feelings and wishes. I have been in quarantine from them my whole life and now the time is right for a change! Thanks a lot for helping me to get on the right track! I feel very good with this now.

Congratulations Monika!

You've experienced dream alchemy simply by looking at your dream, asking and answering questions, doing the dialogue and then ... letting it sit.

In dreams the unconscious mind expresses itself but (especially when we first begin working with dreams) we find it difficult to consciously 'get' it. Think about it: we originally relegate something to the unconscious because we don't want to consider it, so it takes a while for the conscious mind to be ready to accept it.

Yet what a treasure your conscious mind has now seen!

It constantly amazes me that we hide away some of the most wonderful things about ourselves for fear of them.

Do consider becoming a member of this site, Monika. You're ready for interaction in the private forum and that's where it's happening.
