Subject: missed reception

I was getting married. The man in my dream is someone that I know, but we are not dating because of circumstances beyond our control at the moment.

I have had dreams in the past that have made me believe that he is the one I am going to marry, and several were before I ever met him.

We get through the ceremony all right, but I don't make it to my own wedding reception because I am too busy doing other things.

I finally make to where it is being held and he is there, along with my family, and they are happy to see me. I felt awful about it. I opened a few presents and then they showed me the guest book of all the people who were there.

There were people I haven't seen since high school and thought that I would never see again. It was really weird. I'm surprised that I recognized these names in the dream.

Anyway, I felt so bad for missing it as I look at my wedding and my reception as one of the biggest most important days of my life. I felt so bad that in the dream I didn't even want to be around my new husband. He did manage to make me feel better though.

Hi Daisy,

Your dream most probably reflects an area of your life in which you are hesitating. Your dream, essentially, is about a much-desired union that you miss. You are filled-in on the details afterwards, but you missed out on the emotional experience of it all.

Your dream could be about any area of your life: relationship, work, personal growth, career, goals ... The essence of it is that you are missing out on the emotional experience and possibly hesitating majorly, from an unconscious point of view.

When we want something consciously but have conflict from our unconscious, the unconscious generally wins the day.

You said, about your dream, that you were 'pre-occupied'. What would you say is your major pre-occupation in life at this moment? Could this be your way of hesitating about something else?

"Circumstances beyond our control" is a hesitation. Even though circumstances SEEM to come from the world, or from other people or events, they really come from ourselves. The world, and what happens to us, is a reflection of our thoughts, conscious and unconscious, but mostly unconscious. Your dream, I feel, is trying to alert you to unconscious hesitations which manifest as busy-ness and 'pre-occupations' which are preventing you from fully experiencing the emotions of it all.

Our dreams can also play puns: "pre-occupation" could be "the occupation I had before the current one". What was your previous occupation and could you, in some way, be letting this obstruct your 'union' with where/who you would rather be?

Just some starting points for you Daisy,
