Subject: land with a big gutter

anne

I was with someone but I don't know who, and we were inspecting a piece of land. It was bigger than a house block, although it seemed to have a fence on the other side of a big drain or gutter.

I was saying that we would have to cover that gutter as it was quite wide and deep and that we would need to have very long planks of wood and lot of it.

Hello Anne,

If I were to ask you if there was a gap in your life now, or a drain in your life (something draining your energy), would you have an answer?

The land in your dream most probably represents your conscious self. It was bigger than a house 'block'. Our dreams often use puns ... could this dream concern a block in your life?

The fence may symbolise a limit, a boundary or a barrier. Fences can keep us safe inside but when we feel vulnerable we can sometimes fence ourselves in too much (by being defensive ...de.FENCEive..., for example).

What gaps or drains in your life might you wish to cover?

In the dream, did you feel that the gutter was there as an added defense (like an inner moat to reinforce the fence), or did you feel that it was simply a hole which you needed to bridge in order to get to the fenceline and maybe beyond?

Just a few questions for you to contemplate which may lead you towards your own discoveries about your dream Anne.

Thank you Jane, the fence seemed to be only on the back side of the property. When I think about it land seemed to be a double corner block, what I mean is it faced three streets. I got the feeling that the gutter was man made (like a channel), and to cover it would give us more space. Draining my energy - that could be the tablets I'm on at the moment. There's a message for you back on my last entry the one with a question, in case you missed it. Anne

Sorry, I forgot to say it was one of my short sharp dreams along with the extra short dream the next day. I awoke talking to my cat, it was raining in my dream and I was asking the cat whether I thouht it was a good idea to go out in the rain. In reality it was raining and I could hear the water running into the spouting off the tiles. Anne

Hi Anne,

(Thank you for alerting me ... I have replied to you at the previous post.)

A few extra thoughts, considering your apnoea and possible relationships to the dream:

Gutter can sound like 'guttural', meaning a throaty/harsh sound coming from the throat. Sound like apnoea?

Also you saw that covering the gutter could give you more space. Often people have breathing difficulties (in waking life or in dreams) when they feel they do not have enough space (to take a full breath, to fully expand ..)

Your block of land was on several corners. Though it was presumably open on these fronts in the dream, there could be the possibility of a dream pun here on feeling 'cornered' (and therefore restricted in breath/space).

Just some thoughts.

With the possibility that this dream symbolism may relate to a need for more space or to your apnoea (a need for more room to breath), you might like to try this exercise:

Using the symbolism of a dream is powerful as it is the language the unconscious has chosen to reflect a situation. Over the next few days, visualise re-entering the dream and placing a cover of some sort across the gutter. Continue the visualisation to FEEL the expansion of space, both within the land area and within yourself. FEEL a deep full breath.

Let us know if there are any improvements in your apnoea or any progressions in your life within a week or so of the visualisation exercises.
