Subject: Long ago lost toiletry item

My boss and I have had an intimate discussion about our roles in the job we are going to do together next.

We are in a very large house that I feel familiar with. I want to go to the bathroom to freshen up or prepare in some way. But there is a toiletry item that I really want with me when I go.

(My dream character knows what she wants to do in the bathroom and what the lost item she is looking for is. My waking self doesn't. She knows she left the item a long time ago, and it should still be there.)

My boss accompanies me through the house looking for the bathroom that I left the item in.

I know I will recognize the bath when I see it, but so many rooms have been added to the house that I don't know where the original bathroom is.

We walk through the house checking all the bathrooms. None look like the right one. A girl is showering in one. I sit down in one bedroom with adjoining bath, explaining to my boss that there's no need to check this bath. This room was a latter addition, too.

The vast house has mainly been constructed after the original rooms, and I don't know where to look next for the old bath that the item was left in.

Note:

My dream had several segments to it but this one stands out and begs me to figure out what the lost item is and why I need it. An earlier segment of the dream referenced the 1960's. I was born in 1960 and feel that the item represents something I left behind in early childhood.

Firstly, does the 1960's as an era have any significance for you at the moment, free love, experimentation, liberation. You were born in the 1960's but it also was a significant time for social consciousness as well – does any of it have any meaning for you at the moment?

Bathroom and toilet dreams – how great! I haven’t had one for a long time! Emotionally letting go and cleansing! I suppose there is a difference between the symbolism of a toilet and a shower in a dream. You were looking for the bathroom, to wash or to go to the toilet? By the end of the dream you make references to baths, so presumably in the dream you're looking for somewhere to wash? Although I think you said it better yourself..... to the bathroom to "freshen" up. Are you consciously going through a time of freshening up an aspect of your life?

What do you associate with your boss? Are you two close in waking life? Are you going to do another project together (is it the nature of your job) or was this a part of your dream? Your subconscious, inner self knows why you're boss has to accompany you in this dream – what do you admire/associate/ or like about him/her? Is he/she going through anything in particular at the moment?

You said that you felt the item missing represented something from your early childhood...... I wonder if its your inner-child or adult that misses it - is it something that you need to detach from or something you need to rekindle? The other thing that comes to mind is the "re-fresh" button on a computer - is there something that hasn't downloaded properly or updated you hit the "re-fresh" button. Perhaps your subconscious is "freshening" up your emotional state about something?

The interesting thing was the expansiveness of the house you were in. So many baths and bathrooms, I wonder if this represents all the parts of yourself where you go to cleanse, reflect or how much growth and expansion you've gone through lately?

A dream that Jane did an interpretation for me two weeks ago had some messages for me from the 1960s (and 1970s, too). There was something that I left behind, specifically a secret that a dream character had been hiding. I wonder if that toiletry item was something you left behind in your childhood. There's a lot of "roooms" in your dream house. Maybe the dream is telling you to make more room in your life for something. When I dream about a house, it is often symbolic of my life. You have added a good deal of "room" in your life already. There is one of those that has a comfortable role for you that you need to spend more time in. I know this is vague.

But you're wanting to prepare in some way. Perhaps that role is one of being child like and innocent, hence the 1960 stuff. I'm getting some of my own stuff mixed up in this. But that item is such a mystery, as is that child like quality that we enjoy in each other so much. When we meet someone with those child qualities, we feel so refreshed by their company.

I like Julia's idea about cleansing. Is there some cleansing that needs to happen for you?

This feels like an important dream to me. Please keep us posted.
