Subject: Ancient Egyptian dreams

Kirsty

05:17 25/05/2000

A man was writing down a list of names of Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses and he turned to me and asked me to help.

So the pair of us sat there and thought of names. I got up and started to walk around when suddenly I ran to him saying, "Sekhmet, Sekhmet". I was thinking, “Where did the name come from?” as I've never heard it before.

Note:

I woke up and wrote the name down. I then found out from the Internet that it was in fact the name of an Ancient Egyptian Goddess and I had spelt it exactly right. I can't recall hearing the name before and I don't know why I dreamt of it. Perhaps I have heard it somewhere before and my subconscious has bought it up. I've always been amazed by Ancient Egyptian history.

Kirsty,

This dream begs the question , what is Sekhmet the god of? I cannot wait. I am going to look myself.

Cheers, Liam

Does this mean anything to you?

Attributes: A sun goddess. She represents the scorching, burning, destructive heat of the sun. She was a fierce goddess of war, the destroyer of the enemies of Ra and Osiris. Her temper was uncontrollable. In the legend of Ra and Hathor, Sekhmet's anger became so great, she would have destroyed all of mankind if Ra had not taken pity on us and made her drunk. . . . . .Sekhmet was the wife of the creator-god Ptah. This marriage was unusual in that it resulted from geographical proximity of their cults rather than a sharing of attributes.

Representation: A woman with the head of a lion.

It is also the name of an anarchist/feminist magazine in New Zealand as I found.

Good luck in your sun god quest.

Cheers Liam. You've found some really cool info there. Well I don't know how Sekhmet relates to me and I certainly don't have an uncontrollable temper. I am so grateful to you for finding this info I have found it very interesting. I thought perhaps that I had heard the name Sekhmet before but didn't register it and so my subconcious brought it up in my dream perhaps. But how I knew that it was an Ancient Egyptian Goddess I do not know. Thanks Liam. For your help.

Hi Kirsty, there are theories (Jung) about the ancient archetypes that remain in the minds of modern men; in the collective subconscious. This dream is likely to be of some importance to you, I'm sure you will see some interesting remarks coming in over the next few days... sd

I like collective subconcious SD. You are great.

Kirsty,

IN the dream, you were surprised that you knew Sekhmet's name. She has a temper, so is there someone you know who also does - someone close? The man is listing the names ~ is he writing them in a book or on something else? Will the list he's making be a permanent record? Why your enthusiasm for ensuring that SEKHMET's name gets recorded.

What about the association with sun? Or son? Name/Son.

Good to see you come along - keep us posted, please.

When I woke from my dream I almost immediatly found myself thinking about it and repeating the name to myself. I was so surprised that I remembered this name from my dream so vividly that for some reason I wrote it down. I always tend to have dreams that make no sense I never dream of myself falling or running away from something, thay all seem to be confusing. The man seemed to be writing the names on a notebook or just paper. I think there may have been a clipboard. I can't seem to remember detail here. But I do remember that we were in a cold stoney room. I sensed other people in the room but did not see any. The room seemed to be old,not a modern day carpeted room. I was thinking perhaps a temple or something, but again I can't remember in much detail. I don't know the association with the sun at all and I don't know any one with a fiery temper.

Hi Kirsty.

Here's another suggestion:

Sometimes when beginning to look into dreams, everything is wildly cryptic for a reason. It seems, for me anyway, that the odder the dream, the closer I am to uncovering the message. I find I will often get caught up in a term or idea and think of it in a linear way. What I mean is -- to be presented with the descriptions of the Egyptian Goddess, such as Liam gave you, you then allow your mind to click to whatever connects. Immediately, it would make sense to think of your own 'temper' and if that fails, perhaps try to think of another who has affected you with a temper, like Rick suggested. If both of these fail, try to look at the word differently. Think of it as a double-meaning'd word.

Temper -- what may need to be 'tempered' in your life?

I know I am dealing with one tiny element of the dream, but it is a place that you seem to be stuck. Releasing one block usually sheds light on the rest. This sounds very odd, but there is a point, when disecting a dream, that you start digging forward instead of backwards. Meaning, to look for meaning in what the dream is telling you, in addition to finding the places it connects.

Dreams are incredibly daunting mostly because the answers are not always in our pasts. Sometimes they are in the places to come. By this, I am saying that I think our mind knows the answers to quests in our lives and dreams are it's vehicle of instinct.

Please do continue Kirsty. This is a very rewarding process. Sometimes it takes a while and sometimes it takes a few dreams with connecting symbols before the meaning comes through. If you keep at the process, you will reach some inner understanding -- that quest that has brought each of us to this site in the first place...

I wish you many more enlightening dreams. Angela.

Kirsty,

Sorry if I threw you a curve. What Angela suggests is a good way to start looking at dreams. I felt, too, that there is something with the association that Liam brought - something about the temperment of Sekhmet. I have often found that there is one element of a dream that I get stuck on - why I keep coming back to here to get help with my dream life. Please keep us posted.

No worries on the curves Rick... I was just adding a suggestion.

No curves = non-linear.

And that is what we are after, yes? Life is indeed curvy!

Kirsty, I was also thinking about the pronounciation of 'sekhmet' -- is it like 'seek' 'met' ? Where the seeking meets? Or is it more 'sect' 'met'?

Way Wavy, Angela

Kirsty

22:05 27/05/2000

In my dream I pronounced it more like 'Sec met' But whether that is a correct pronounciation or not I do not know. Thanks for all your insights. I would like to share with you a dream I had last night, It did actually have a historical theme to it but not an Egyptian one as I can remember. I am afraid though, because the dream seemed very far fetched and may sound alittle unbeleivable. But then again isn't that what dreams are all about?

Favonius

We started a sour dough culture for breads at the restaurant I am with recently. It is the custom with many bakers to personify there sour doughs. (Sometimes they are together for years) We decided to take this a step further and name ours. We all concurred that it must be female and I was struck with the idea of naming "her" Sekhmet.(I believe pronounced with the Slavic/Arabic "kxcchx" sound)Hope that is alright Kristy? Sour Doughs are quite sacred in our world.

Cheers, Liam

KIRSTY

04:14 30/05/2000

I would be honoured if you named your dough Sekhmet. Thankyou for asking I'm sure if she were alive she too would be honoured. I read what you have written but I do not understand the bit where you described the pronounciation as slavic/arabic kxcchx-what do you mean here. Please cound you explain?

Favonius

Kristy,

I was trying to write that 'clearing of the throat' kind of sound heard in those languages. A mix of K H and X all mixed together.

Liam, you are a riot! So:

Sekmet/sun goddess/fire/chemical reaction/fermentation/sour dough!

I love it

Kirsty, as Angela points out, dreams often seem weird or unbelievable. Seemingly simple ones can be the hardest to unravel. I just keep posting and working at them, no matter how wierd I think they are at first glance. Keep coming back!
