In dream interpretation it’s significant whether objects are on the right or left, isn’t it? So what if you dream, for example, of feeling someone's throat to discover a swollen gland on the right side (the person's right side, your left side as you face them)? Is that left or right?

Wow great question...... I would have said that it would the other person's right side. Only because if the left was supposed to be the object of symbolism then it would be on the left side of the person who was carrying the swollen gland.!?
Interesting! Could be wrong! is there a wrong or a right?
This is going to be interesting......

Hi SD and JuliA,
I feel it would depend on the rest of the story-line and symbolism in the dream. (i.e. the rest would give clues as to how to interpret this).
It's always important, in any case, to consider the whole dream ... to see the image presented by the big picture before zooming in to look at the constituent parts. The whole is always more than the sum of the parts.
However ... I would say you would first be looking at 'facing' something about yourself (as you are facing the person in the dream), then ... in the absence of the big picture clues, I would suggest that whatever is presented to your right in the dream (even if that is the left side of someone else's face) then it may symbolise an aspect of your outer world (i.e. be read as 'right' not as 'left').
Can anyone give examples of such dreams?

Cheryl's dream of the panther around her right arm. I assume she is not lucid dreaming i.e. she feels on her right hand, not looking at herself. The throat dream above was integrated into a larger dream where I checked the symbol's throat to discover a very swollen (facing me) gland. The background was white, like those "still" dreams I get where there is only an image, no action.

SD,
Try shifting the focus from questioning which side of the face the swollen gland was on, to which hand you used to reach out. Then reframe the question: "What am I touching about my life?"
The swollen gland suggests a fighting of infection, of course, and the throat most likely symbolises communication. So what are you touching, in your life, to discover an 'inner fight' concerning communication? Your answer - once you find it - will help you to answer your initial question.
