Subject: Climbing ladders & stairs

chloe

I have had recurring dreams over recent years involving the most agonizing struggle to either ascend ordinary flights of stairs or ramps in some dreams or ladder type structures in others.

In the most recent dream I was disembarking from a train at the local station where I grew up. There were crowds of people around. I made for the flight of stairs that would take me up over the overhead walkway to the exit. I never made it up the stairs.

The struggle to climb those stairs was so agonizing and torturous. I was crying and trying to drag myself up because my legs just wouldn't work. I was trying to pull myself up with my hands and arms.

Nobody would help me. They didn't show any concern at all. They just ignored me. I wanted help but nobody would notice.

Another time I had the dream I was older and felt as though I was in my old job situation. I came walking across this cleared area down the bottom of what seemed like a large entertainment centre or theatre and there were many galleries all around one on top of the other all filled with people. I made my way across feeling comfortable and confident. But I was headed towards this very high metal ladder that led up past all the galleries. I started to ascend. I had books under one arm and was pulling up with the other. I had the same agonizing feelings as before. Everybody watching, I'm crying and getting no help.

The feeling is always one of utter powerlessness.

(I have posted a second dream below.)

Another type of recurring dream I've had over many years is the type involving dogs.I am very afraid in these dreams. Sometimes I am being chased by large strong dogs and I try to escape. Eventually they catch up with me but instead of biting me and hurting me they grip me with their mouths very tight by the hand or arm. I cannot get away.I try to get rid of them but they won't let go. The last time I had this dream, I was in this sort of hospital building, with long corridors turning this way and that. At first I am free to wander this building unhindered next thing I see are two large rottweiler dogs with harnesses on racing by me. Unfortuately they notice me and turn back. They actually stand up on their hind legs and go either side of me and grip me by my arms and hold on so tight I can't move. They guide me from behind and I have to move where they want me to. I cannot get rid of them. The feeling of tightness and and not being able to move freely is very strong in the dream.

Hi Chloe

Jane has some fantastic information on the messages and importance of reoccuring dreams, if you have either Shape of Things or Dream It Do It, there is valuable information in there.

On a personal note, do you know if you have these dreams at times when you're struggling, feel alone or seem to have no support. I wonder why you keep having this particular dream...... what is it you're meant to conquor!?

I used to have the 'ol chasing' reoccuring dream, someone is chasing me, I don't know..... Jane helped me to process the dream, turn around in the dream and find out who it was and dialogue with that person.

The thing that struck me most when reading your dream was "....to either ascend ordinary flights of stairs or ramps"!!! This is interesting because of the use of the word ordinary. Perhaps in your life you are trying to do ordinary things to please ordinary people when you have an extraordinary mind or mission!?

Or perhaps it relates to an ordinary inner struggle that no one can help you with because you've told no one and therefore they can't help you!?

Did you have this dream recently?

What is going on in your waking life that would parralel this dream?

Just some thoughts......

Hi Chloe & JuliA,

Just wanted to add that these two recurring dreams do fit together and hold a significant key for you Chloe. There is so much in them and others may add in here.

The first dream reflects the extraordinary lengths you feel (unconsciously) you need to go through to be entitled to reach higher levels. This often stems from an early conditioning which leaves you feeling you have to prove yourself .. that you're not automatically entitled to the same freedoms of being and opportunity that others accept easily and naturally.

In harsher terms, it's a little like earning your birthright. It is likely that you are a very successful high achiever in many aspects of your life, based on this drive to earn your right to be.

The dog dream can be seen as a clamp on your freedom, a restriction that digs its teeth in every time you are ready to heal (hospital) and move forward more freely. Again these dream dogs are parts of your unconscious character, being restrictive forces you've felt obliged to believe in since an early age.

There are ways to throw off these inner forces to free yourself to achieve and be according to different freedoms rather than according to inappropriate restraints which have grown in response to your earlier conditions.

Would others like to add more here?

Hope this helps Chloe,

Jane Anderson

May I add my two bits?

Really this is just further to Jane's ideas but I noticed the first scene you described was the local train station where you grew up. You were unable to reach the exit. It seems this feeling was stronger in the childhood setting than in the later work setting. Are not all of our patterns, dramas, roles, call them what you will, ingrained in our youth? Or am I just restating the obvious here? Sorry if I am. I noted too that you were returning to the station rather than embarking on the train. Very relevant I think. Trains are pretty powerful images of direction and destiny. Have come up in the sync forum since I started participating. Perhaps there is a clue here about returning to the past Chloe to "throw off these inner forces"

Just thinking, Liam

Thanks for taking the time to look over my dreams and make some comments for me. You all have made points that certainly resonate with me. Jane's suggestions about my chilhood development are pretty well spot on. No, I haven't had either of these dreams lately but I am sure to sooner or later. I will need to be more vigilent about what is going on at the time to see how they parallel my waking circumstances. At the moment I appear to have support from some of my friends in an on-going endeavour. However, this support is an on and off thing because it doesn't always come from the same lot of people. Sometimes I really find myself on my own and now I think of it, I can remember at times that I have really cried out aloud about how I am ever going to do the things I am supposed to and need to do. Perhaps those dogs represent fear in me. Fear is such a big force that holds me back from doing things. Thanks, Chloe
