I was about to get into the driver's side of a peacock blue coloured sedan. John (my recent ex) was in the passenger seat.
I was suddenly fearful to get in because a huge smooth black spider lay on a single web, as if in a hammock, between the rear-view mirror and the passenger's visor.
The spider looked more like a shiny stone with glassy creepy legs. In irritation, John swatted away the web and the spider skittered away.
I noticed, at that point, that it had a large twisted brassy earring pegged through the middle of its head* (See note). I thought how the earring must have been in the place where the spider eggs were and this particular spider's head grew around the earring.
I realized that the spider was still in the car and I had to get it out in order for me to get in. I went through the back door, crawled across the back seat and opened the other back door.
The spider zoomed outside and shrivelled instantly as spiders do in sudden atmospheric changes.
It was dark and rainy outside. I knew that I could now drive, but I felt sad and empty.
Note:
I wore earrings just like this when I was 15.
