Two nights in a row I had dreams about messing my pants or realizing that I didn't wipe clean.

Diannew, It is a bit gross isn't it? Do you think that maybe you, and only you, know where you have "messed up" somewhere in your life? Or where there has been something you have done, that was a "shitty" thing to do, and you haven't made amends for it, or "cleaned up" after it?........ Best wishes for some more pleasant dreams.

No. I'm really cautious about those things. Maybe it's just simply the feeling of being embarrassed or exposed. Who knows.

Hello Dianne and Western Time,

All the above meanings are possible according to the various ways in which this kind of dream can play out:

Western Time: your focus here is on the way in which dreams frequently act out puns or cliches ... which are then often reinforced in the words the dreamer chooses to tell the dream story. I find these often lead to extremely meaningful interpretations.

Dianne: you mention your waking life caution about cleaning 'shitty' or messy episodes in life up: clearing the air, so to speak. Such care takes courage and is to be greatly admired. It's possible that your dream is dealing with 'why' you take such care ... beyond the loving of the people or situations you wish to clear. In other words, a dream will often challenge (from the unconscious) a conscious trait or attitude. It's possible that your unconscious is challenging your caution, asking "What if ...?"

Exposed and embarrassed: possibly yes, too. What a great overlap with Shalie21's dream in the post above yours.

Such a dream can also be a version of 'airing your dirty linen in public': that metaphor of a moral of generations past (hopefully!), that we should smile and not share our secrets or discuss our trials, errors and discoveries with others.

In general, people often dream some very shitty .. even diarrhea type dreams when they are making wonderful progress in some area of their life: it's like a speedy "out with all the old crap" metaphor ..a very healthy thing.

Our best learning often comes from our messiest, shittiest times ... how wonderful to let go of the bits we no longer need and just hold on to the nutritional treasures!

(For those of you who wonder what it takes to get your post to come up in colour: if you are a member and you log on as a member before you post, you'll be coloured. So, Welcome Western Time ... see you over in the Members Community Forum too we hope! Dialogues and interpretations get very deep over there... as do the bonds formed as a result.)

Jane, you may have hit something. I'm in the process of "cleaning out" some garbage at work and emotionally at home. When I had these dreams, my reaction to the mess was more along the lines of disgust with the situation and irritation that things weren't cleaned up. Today was a good day. It represented closure and a new beginning. Let's hope the gross dreams are a thing of the past.

Thanks, Dianne
