Subject: Very Frightening Dream

This man had captured me and was keeping me in his house.

He was a serial killer who killed people and dismembered them.

While he was looking for a knife I saw a bunch of limbs and heads lying around on tables, some in jars. I could hear them calling out to me for help.

When the man came to kill me he took stabs at me, but I wasn't hurt.

I wrestled the knife from him and slashed his face off. But it just fell to the floor and a new face was underneath.

One of the new faces was my father's. I finally escaped from the house, got on a bicycle, and was racing away from him but he was always just a few feet behind, also on a bike.

I pulled out a handgun and shot at him but he never would die. We raced into some woods and split off on separate trails.

I started to fly, thinking that I was safe. But I turned around and he was flying too, just a little bit behind me.

Hi Audrey.

You are absolutely having some pretty scary and intense dreams. Both this one and the 'Escaping' one have incredibly powerful overlaps.

This is what I noticed when reading each of your dreams: blades (either rollerblades or knife blades) as a means to free yourself; the 'fork' roads or 'split off on separate trails' reference; handgun or 'hand as gun'; and flying occurred both times as well. You have a lot of symbolism wanting to be acknowledged -- the above plus the little heart candies, limbs, dismemberment, jars, etc. Because there are so many, perhaps the best thing to do might be to try to look at one at a time.

I think that slashing off the faces to discover your father's face was probably the most obvious imagery. Why not start there? Because the dream is yours, it is most likely that your father in your dream is actually your idea/feeling of your father incorporated into your personality. Think about what you might be 'facing' right now in your life that is causing you to draw up your father's image.

The dismembering, slashing, stabbing are all ways of separating. So back to the 'fork' and 'separate trails'. Having to make a decision perhaps? Are you in the process of making some life decisions that may separate you from people you care about or ideals that you have always had?

Do you use your hands as a way to make a living? Or do you have a particular talent that requires your hands? I'm probably way off here, but I'm thinking about your weapons, your form of defense...

And of flying: I think Jane commented on someone's earlier dream about flying being, in some cases, a special power. But I think she also said it could be about not having one's 'feet on the ground' -- maybe then, idealizing? Or thoughts not based on reality or down to earth? This goes quite deep with you thinking you were safe, then your chaser flying after you. But let's see what you think first. This might not even be close. You will know your own feelings and symbols most of all.

Do keep us informed on how you are doing with it.

Angela.

First, to answer your questions: You're right about the hands thing...I play two types of guitars. Right now I'm feeling a bit alienated from a really good friend who I've been friends with for a very long time. There's really nothing I can think of that would relate to my father. I was very surprised that his face was in my dream, because I hardly have any problems with him. I think my big decisions, fork-in-the-road type thing is deciding whether to leave my friend alone or try to mend the friendship. I'm thinking that the flying might be related to my daydreaming; I have a bad habit of daydreaming just about all the time.

After I had these dreams, I was very upset, obviously, so I prayed for relief and it came. I haven't had any upsetting dreams since this last one. The only dreams(that I can remember) that I have had so far are ones where I talk with different people and interact; not much fantasy or anything out of the blue.

Thanks so much for everyone's help with all my dreams!
