Subject: The Break-In

Audrey

05:38 26/01/2000

I was breaking into a large, gothic-style house.

It was about the midnight and all I had was a floodlight flashlight. I was using ropes and climbing along the balconies.

I was accompanied by two friends, though I wasn't able to see their faces or tell who they were.

We finally broke into the house and split up so we could search. It was very dark, with lots of shadows.

I would sense someone's presence in the room, and turn around and find a terrifying monster-like creature. He didn't hurt me in any way, but he was very menacing. Eventually, more and more monsters appeared, and I was surrounded. I was very nervous and scared.

Hello Audrey,

Scary though your dream was for you, it was actually a very positive one. Dreams love puns, so your 'break in' dream scene is likely to reflect recent 'break throughs' that you have made in your life. These break throughs may be conscious ones (ones you are aware of making) or maybe unconscious ones (changes and insights which are about to percolate through into consciousness: these latter may be accompanied by synchronicities).

Everything in a dream usually reflects some part of the dreamer. It may be confusing at first to think of the monsters as being a part of yourself, but this is what generally happens:

Aspects of ourselves which we disapprove of, or which we try to keep at bay, can be represented in our dreams as negative, as shadows, or as monsters. What one person sees as negative, however, another sees as positive.

As an example, if you have a very assertive streak which your upbringing has taught you is negative, you would (in this example) shy away from asserting yourself, believing this to be a negative quality. In our dreams we see these 'negative' qualities as shadows of ourselves, or as monsters surrounding or chasing us. The qualities we try to hide are not hurtful (as your dream pointed out) but are menacing ('threatening') because they threaten our present way of life if we choose to bring these qualities into our lives (threaten to change how others see us, even if our change is for the better).

So what I wish to say to you, Audrey, is that I feel your dream reflects your increasing understanding that there are 'shadowy' parts of yourself that feel menacing ... yet it is time to shine a light into these areas (floodlight/ flashlight) in order to know yourself more clearly. We all keep amazing aspects of ourselves hidden away for fear of our own light and potential, and it is likely that your dream is drawing attention to this fact.

The presence you sense is an aspect of yourself - and your other dreams will throw more light on what this aspect is, and how this knowledge can help you to know yourself and express yourself more deeply: in knowing yourself you can then determine how to shine your fuller light on your world.

Hope this helps!
