Subject: Jealousy

I was with my two friends, Holly and Brad. We were trapped inside a huge grocery store. It was very dark inside, poorly lit, with lots of intimidating people.

I discovered that I had "magic powers," like making doors appear, going through walls and different things. I was trying to get us out of the store by using my powers.

Holly decided that she wanted to fly, but I didn't want her to have the same powers I did. I raised some glass doors so that she couldn't get through.

Instead, Holly jumped right through the glass. I did the same, and we were all out in the parking lot. It was night time and I could see tons of clear, blue stars. Holly decided that she wanted to fly, but I became jealous again, and tried to prevent her from flying.

I finally was the first to fly, and I picked Holly and Brad up and took them to the top of a building. I was wearing black clothes the whole time, Brad in black, and Holly in white. When we reached the top of the building, my clothes changed to white and I grew massive angel-like wings. Holly's clothes changed to black. I taught Holly and Brad how to fly. I was the only one with wings.

Hi Caitlyn

There's a lot in your dream, but here are a couple of clues to start you off. Perhaps others might like to add more too:

You started off trapped with intimidating people. The start of a dream often introduces the theme of the conflict, problem or question the dream then moves on to explore.

So it seems your dream is about intimidation in your life: what intimidates you, why and how to overcome it.

Most of the people in our dreams represent aspects of ourselves, even when they seem to accurately portray themselves too. So whether or not you find anyone or any situation in your life intimidating right now, it will be true that there is a part of yourself (probably unconscious) which is intimidating. This may sound weird but this is what I feel is happening for you:

You have a great power (the dream shows you performing magic and flying: both symbols of your own personal power) which you are probably not using. The reason you are not using this power is because you fear being seen to be powerful. There is a part of yourself that is "the intimidator": her purpose is to hold you back from achieving your full potential through fear of the changes which will occur when the truly powerful Caitlyn emerges. This is a kind of misplaced self-protection. Most of us do this all the time as we generally prefer to stay in our comfort zones, staying with what feels safe and known.

Black clothes can symbolise the unconscious (dark and unseen) and white clothes can symbolise the conscious (what is known and clear). Holly started with white clothes showing she is the part of yourself that is out there in the world saying "I can be powerful, I can achieve (I can fly)".

This is a wonderful dream because you discover the unconscious side of yourself: the one wearing dark clothes, the one who is jealous. As you recognise your jealousy in the dream you breakthrough this feeling and grow your own wings, moving from dark clothes to light, just as this jealous side of Caitlyn moves from the unconscious into conscious recognition. This is a dream about realising there is a hidden part of yourself that can feel jealous of success and achievement because you feel intimidated by it. However the dream shows that when you understand this pattern, you make a 'breakthrough': following your own power (following Holly in the dream) instead of obstructing your own power (through feeling intimidated or through jealousy) is the way to grow wings.

Much more to this dream: over to others and to you, Caitlyn, for your thoughts.

Wishing you happy flying and many bright stars. Jane Anderson
