your dream was very intense. i looked around for clues but havent found a lot that can help from what i have here to read.
one source said that people in dreams that are known to you probably symbolize themselves unless it just doesn't make sense. do you travel with this friend frequently? if not, then it could mean something like taking your work with you when you should leave it at the office. if you do travel with this friend, then you need to think about what this relationship means to you. the river (water) can symbolize so many things - my own preference to start is that it is the unconscious - but it can also mean some kind of movement, traveling just like you were doing in the car. was it placid or turbulent? did it feel soothing or threatening? answers to those questions will help with this dream. all these people being killed, homeless and bus drivers, may have something to do with loss in your life - are you moving, or have some people moved away from you? are you going through a spurt in personal growth? could these people symbolize parts of yourself you have to leave behind to grow further?
the violence of the murder may indicate some hostility you either fear or harbor. what does homelessness mean to you? does it scare you for some reason right now? and the bus drivers take people from place to place. is there someone or some people who you would like to help you get somewhere in your life who are letting you down or are not available?
the people lined at the bus stop where stuck, waiting. is that how you feel some way in your work environment.
could it be that this dream is about your work situation, you fear being fired or homeless. but yet you feel like youre going nowhere?
a man tells you not to go outside, to be careful. someone is telling you this is not the time to take risks (at work maybe?)
a serial killer is on the loose: someone at work is causing lots of trouble for others - a supervisor maybe?
so your work friend helps you, lets you stay, but you have to stay with someone you don't know. not knowing someone threatens you - is there someone at work new who feels threatening just because you don't know them?
theres a lot of discomfort in this dream, not only from not wanting to stay with your friends roommate but with the serial killer and with all the dead people, and the stuck bus riders.
there is something major stressing you i would guess. and you want to run or hide from it. you are even counseled to stay in and not venture out. i'm wondering if this fear is holding you back from something?
