"Doubling, Doubling"

Author

Subject: Doubling, doubling

Late last year I experienced a run of synchronicities about 'doubles'.

Earlier this week, in one 24 hour period, the synchronicity bubbled up again. I have just posted this story to the private Members' Forum and then realised it would be a good one to share here:

Here's the story (this was during a couple of days in Sydney promoting Dream Alchemy):

On Monday, early evening, Michael and I were sitting in a coffee shop in Double Bay, unaware that this marked the beginning of a doubling synchronicity.

While there we each noticed a yellow-gold Rolls Royce parked about three car spaces from where we were sitting. The number plate was simply RR.

A couple of hours later we took a taxi to a radio station for an interview. A woman named Amanda had checked details with us. We arrived and were duly met by Amanda. She took us upstairs and introduced us to the only other woman there - another Amanda. (We 'double' checked - they were, indeed, both Amandas.)

The next day, we stood in Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, waiting for a taxi to take us to another radio station. We stood there for about three minutes. We both saw the yellow-gold Rolls Royce with its signature double RR numberplate drive past.

At lunchtime we were at Circular Quay and a couple who we had specifically observed at Double Bay walked past.

In the afternoon I received a mobile phone call while we were in another taxi going back to the airport. It was from a radio producer named Peter, wondering if I could do Dream Talk Back for them that evening. His presenter's name? You've got it. Peter.

The Peter-Peter doubling was extra interesting because they had no idea about Dream Alchemy! They had been recommended to call me by their new programme director who had heard me in the past.

So - I'm here saying 'yes' to the principle of all good things being doubled and doubled and doubled .....

Double Bay/ double sighting of rolls royce/ RR / Amanda-Amanda/ double sighting of Double Bay couple/ Peter-Peter.

Hi Luciano,

For you, then, synchronicity is when two things happen in the same moment.

For me synchronicity is the stunning repetition (it has to be of the sort that takes your breath away) of a symbol or symbolic theme within a short time frame, usually within 24 hours.

My experience and understanding is that the symbol seen in waking life reflects an unconscious change or breakthrough.

Symbols of this change are often in a dream during the night before the day of the synchronicities. The synchronicities are the outward 'sign' of the change, but they are not necessarily signs to follow - they carry symbolic meaning, as do dreams. They symbolise a change in you.

When I experience a synchroncity, I can usually relate it to a dream. If I can't, I know one possibility is that I haven't recalled the dream.

The synchronicity I posted here is a repetition of the theme of doubling.

Hope this helps.

There are a variety of definitions of synchronicity these days! I have written much on this in my third book, The Shape of Things to Come (Random House).

WHAT IS
SYNCHRONICITY?

Jane Teresa's Explanation

Jane Teresa Anderson

WHAT IS SYNCHRONICITY?

________

Synchronicity occurs when you experience a coincidence, or several coincidences, that seem so bizarre that you feel they must be meaningful in some way.

Some people believe that synchronicities are signs to follow, to lead you to where you are 'meant' to be. My understanding, however, is that not all synchronicities are to be followed, because ...

Synchronicities are SYMBOLS of where you're at, not signs to follow.

Synchronicities speak the same symbolic language as dreams.

When you experience a synchronicity, you are witnessing a change within yourself, an insight, a birth of something that has been unconscious bubbling up into consciousness.

At such times of change we see, all around us, symbols that reflect our shift in perception and self-understanding. This is synchronicity.

To understand this fully, and to see why it is not always appropriate to follow synchronicity, you can read my book, THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME. This way you can also discover how to read the synchronicities in your life and how to act on them in positive, life-enhancing ways.

Reality may never feel the same again!

______

P.S.

In Jungian terms all synchronicities begin with a dream.

The dream comes first, then the symbol from the dream appears in waking life in ways that seem incredibly meaningful - though, classically, it is hard to understand, consciously, what that meaning is.

This is because the dream is painted by your unconscious mind in advance of your conscious mind 'catching up'. When the insight (unconscious shift) is big, synchronicities follow.

What happens is that your incredibly powerful unconscious mind (far more powerful than your conscious mind) manifests its insight physically into your waking life. (You have changed - the world, as you experience it, changes in accordance.)

It usually takes up to a couple of weeks before your conscious mind understands the symbolic dream manifesting in your waking life as synchronicity.

Being human, as we all are, we often forget the original dream but still experience the synchronicities.

There are many excellent reference sources on Jungian synchronicity.

My approach is largely Jungian, but slightly shifted.

Again, if you are seriously in-depth interested, I suggest you read my book "THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME" to understand where I am coming from.

Quite simply, synchronicity is a waking dream and interpreting it as such is immensely enriching.
