Subject: Stingrays in dreams : symbolism of?

Stingrays were swimming all around me while I was sinking into the ocean, but I realized if I remained calm, that with even strokes I can make it to the surface, so they didn’t hurt me. They brushed up against my leg and that is all. It was surreal.

Note:

The night before I had a dream about a bumblebee in my ear, but it didn’t hurt me. Both creatures are related through the stinger.

Hi Bemuse!

I am not an expert but maybe the ocean stands for the subconscious or your emotions. The problems or worries and fears (stingrays) that attack you will do no harm to you if you stay calm and you will be able to continue your way. This was what came to my mind when I read your dream. I hope you will find out more! Monika

Hi Bemuse,

Monika is on track here.

To discover your personal symbolism of stingrays, bumblebees ... stings ... make a list of all the situations in your waking life that could be described as 'stings' or which feel potentially 'stinging'.

Then consider how you respond or deal with these situations. Is it through calmness or through other emotions? What would be the effect of using calmness? What would be addressed? What would not be addressd?

Our dreams often use animals to symbolise our own instincts or energies. Bearing this in mind, have a think about how you may or may not be handling feelings of stinging within yourself. Who or what would you like to 'sting'? Do you hold back stinging remarks? Would calmness (or bemusement?) help you to see situations that provoke the "inner stingray" or "inner bumblebee" differently?

It's always challenging but immensely insightful to look at all energies and symbols in a dream as belonging to the dreamer.

We see the world according to our own experiences ... as we are, so we see the world.

Hope this helps orientate your dream insight, Bemuse.
