Subject: Rain"in Indoor!!!

Suzy

16:44 13/08/2002

There was more to this dream than raining indoors, but that was the part that seemed of importance. There was a narrow oval hole, about 5-6 inches in length, in my daughter’s ceiling, near the edge. The hole didn't go all the way through, yet the rain was literally showering through like it was a big open hole.

As I dreamed I knew I had dreamed about this hole before but the rain was just a leak then.

Overview Interpretation & Dream Alchemy Practice suggestion

OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION

Hi Suzy,

Water in dreams often represents your emotions, so what kind of emotion might rain reflect? Sometimes rain is joyful and bounteous as when it brings the promise of growth after a long dry spell. Rain can feel refreshing, enlivening. Yet rain can also feel depressing, issuing from black clouds, erasing sunshine. What feeling did the showering rain give you in your dream Suzy? The feeling is an important part of the interpretation.

Houses in dreams often symbolise your mind or body. Your dream focuses on the ceiling in your daughter’s room. The ceiling may represent the brain, or thinking. Or it may represent protection, as a ceiling could be seen as a roof, normally keeping the weather out. Yet again, a ceiling could represent a limit. We talk about glass ceilings, for example, and we build houses with low or high ceilings to limit or expand size or heat retention.

Since your dream ceiling is letting in rain, it perhaps makes most sense to look at the ceiling as a protection. In this case, though, the protection is not working! Emotions are leaking (in the first dream) and showering (in the second dream) through. What protective systems are breaking down?

There is a clue in the size of the hole, 5-6 inches. What happened when your daughter was age five to six, or when you were aged five to six, or five to six years or months ago? This may sound broad, but when dreams give a number, or when you describe something in a dream with numbers, those numbers often accurately pinpoint a significant time.

Your first dream came up when the emotional intrusion you were feeling was only beginning. The second dream shows you need to address this now. Remember this dream is not about your daughter! All dreams are about you, the dreamer. Look for the source of the emotional intrusion in your own situation.

DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE

Dialogue:

Your dialogue is between the ceiling and the rain. Start with the ceiling saying, “You’re not supposed to be coming through here!” and see what the rain automatically answers. Keep it going for 20 minutes.

How to do this:

Give yourself no longer than 20 minutes. When you do this exercise do NOT think! Don’t plan ahead. Just let whatever happens happen. Let the two entities speak to each other on paper using whatever words come up. It’s a bit like writing a film script or play – but without the brain being involved.

How does this work?

By not thinking, by keeping the words flowing, you are letting your right brain and unconscious mind do most of the work. They created the original dream so they know what these symbols mean for you. They will reveal. You will be surprised.

ORIGINAL THREAD

Gidday Suzy

Here's a few suggestions

rain as emotional release

coming from a hole in the ceiling (or a hole in the sealing, as in leak). Is there something you have sealed off that is now leaking into consciousness, becoming a steady shower of awareness? The progression from just a leak to shower suggests things are intensifying.

I've read somewhere that an oval shape can symbolise the womb - don't know if that has any resonance with you?

Cheers

Stephen

Suzy

Just thinking further about your dream.

Other clues may come from the age of your daughter (representing you at this age) and the setting of the bedroom - a place where you rest, sleep, dream, etc?

Gee your insight is interesting, could be either situation. We have had termendous extended family problems for the last 8 months, which this pecticular daughter has expressed she doesn't want to hear or deal with. I've tried to be especially careful not to express my feeling or discuss any issues with or around her, but maybe I need to be even more cautious.

Or as you mentioned the age factor, she's 16 yr old and that's how old I was when I suffered a tragic incident by several boys. She doesn't date or even go to parties other than slumber parties but she's got such a zest for school, college and her future I don't want her to lose it as I did. Very Interesting indeed, I'm totally intrigued by dreams and their meanings but don't really know where to start learning how to interpret them other then the dream dictionaries and most of the time they aren't always much help. Thanks again for your insight, Suzy I notice you said, Cheers I've rarely heard that term used, but it's a refreshing pleasant one at that. Cheers to you too

Hi Suzy/Susie? (Same person?)

Dream dictionaries really don't offer much help simply because they can't possibly give the full meaning to what a symbol can mean for each of us separately. Our own personal dreams draw on extremely personal images and feelings held in *our* memories. After we find our personal meanings, there can be universal ones, as I talked about in the post below, but finding your own symbolism first, will make decoding your dreams a whole lot faster.

Now, saying that, there are many images, such as water and ovals, that do seem to have a fairly common theme for people since we all interact with these things mostly in the same way. We just have to look at each dream image and think about what it does. Rain is a release from pressure in the atmosphere. So, it makes sense for your dream rain to represent emotional release, as Stephen says. As for an oval, I think instantly of an egg. So, where Stephen gets womb, I get eggs or beginnings -- kind of the same thing, but slightly different. What comes to mind for you with the words 'narrow oval hole'?

After reading what you've said above, there could be an extremely personal reference here, Suzy, to some sexual memories that need releasing?

I just want to say, that if you want to join us in the Member's Forum, there is a whole supportive and experienced crew of us discovering and working through ours and other's dream blocks 24-7. Hi Susie. I know your dream happened a while back. But I can identify with your dreams. I had several dreams where the roof was leaking all over the place. But my dreams turned out to be prophetic and literal rather than symbolic. These dreams were fulfilled when my roof in the living room sprung leaks. I can see 3 places where the roof was leaking. Then it was leaking pretty bad around the chimney. I had a new roof put on and the dreams went away. You may not see any leaks now. But, your dreams may be warning that there will be leaks. Only time will tell if your dreams are symbolic or literal.
