Hi Everyone.
Don't worry, I won't subject you to my poetry... But I have been synching all day with something and I just have to share it.
I was searching the net for Canadian literary journals to make some submissions. I was stopped in my tracks at a brand new journal called 'Pagitica'. It just seemed right for a particular poem that I am obsessed with getting published this year. I pulled the submission together and popped it in the mail all within a couple hours. It usually takes me days and weeks to get up the nerve, then find the right journal, then read my poem, change it, hate it, rip it up and write it again, before it actually gets into the mail.
I was super proud of myself...until...I realized I'd titled the journal 'Pragitica' -- not once, but THREE times! The poem is not even going to get read because of such a careless error. Needless to say, I'm disappointed and grumpy. However, I got home from work about an hour ago to see two emails from two different writer friends. One was titled 'Pagitica', the other 'Pagitica Launch'.
This journal is calling me, or haunting me...

I shudder...writer's worst nightmare come true.
Just a thought- is there something in your life that need editing? Closer attention to detail? I'm thinking throes might be part of this synch too?

THROES? on purpose or is "throes" over excitement part of the editing problematic???? This journal is calling you - perhaps not for submission or re (maybe of course yes) but necessarily sometihng's in there you need to read (what was in the e-mails? how did they connect. I have to tell you Angela, not three minutes before I came over to this I was thinking - heey girl -sop messing about - go check out which poems are ready for submitting and do something about it today!! I literally pulled out International Directory of Little Magazines with one hand while pushing buttons to go over to the synch column with the other.. weird no. I never even thought to use the web for this although I've used it for a million other things.. more weirdness. Good good good, send out all you can while the spirit moves you ( I think I mean that literally...) love to both, babel |

Hi-ya!
That's an interesting thought about needing editing... This poem needed a lot of editing for its highly erotic nature. I had hoped I'd got it toned down enough to publish -- maybe not...
The 'throes', Babel, was about me teasing Lynn on the Members Forum. I spelled 'throes' -- 'throws'. So yes, another case of needing editing. (I just re-read what you wrote Babel, maybe you did get that. Sorry.)
The first email was my close friend telling me she'd just got a phone call from a writer friend who'd mentioned this new journal called 'Pagitica'. The second email was from a writer acquaintance (who is from my tiny village and is also a struggling writer) telling me there was a launch of this new journal 'Pagitica'.
Babel, that is an amazing synch with you once again. We have always synched with writing stuff. Is that our link?
And Lightning Lynn (loved that image by the way!!!) I wouldn't edit you for all the world!
Angela.

Pagitica here you come. Two e-mails on the same day that have direct connection with the subject itself - the same day your stuff went off....too much to pass. If the address is correct there is no reason why the mailman won't figure it out.. How long does this magazine say they give responses in? I'd send out out a new envelope just for your peace of mind and look at the poem again, once again.. commas, better word, even one.. good luck, babel yes, the writing thing is our connection..it's strong.. we ought to think about this..there's something here. |

Hi Babel.
It's not really that I'm worried about them not getting it. It's more that I'm worried they will... Spelling the name of the magazine wrong or the name of the editor wrong is an absolute no-no. People trash that stuff on ego alone, not even opening it. I just don't want to wait the six odd months to discover I should have sent it elsewhere immediately. It is my most important poem to date. And I must publish it somewhere. My deadline for myself is within the year.
I'm going to email them right now and warn them. And beg and plead that they overlook it...
Talk to you soon. |

Maybe that is the message behind all this - like that of negative publicity - at least you get your name in the headlines Email them - make a fuss. I've come along way in my writing since the poems I sent you - my editing abilities have gone sky high (due to my stress) I would be happy to look at the poem if you wish... I hate to see you in pain so about this - a million poems go in and out of offices angela - a million things are accepted and rejected (even by very good writers) it is the way of the game love. It is work that you love (thank god) and a passion and a way of life - but it is..work. I have been at this for 25 years and the minute I took away the emotional side of rejection, including in workshops (not the joy) I fly.. fly Angela, leave the personal aside in the business aspect of it - only keep it in the writing itself. Don't pain this so much please. babel |

Thanks dear Babel.
It's okay, really. I'm not in that much pain. I do find myself physically hurting by my novel sometimes, but that's another story.
I was just mad at myself for being careless. But mostly I was posting the synchronicity of this magazine name appearing in my email inbox for the first time -- the very day I discovered it.
I know there are many opportunities out there and I will go for them. And you are right. I shouldn't put so much weight in one place. I think though, I just sounded much worse than I felt. I'll sort something out. But, really, thanks for your understanding Babel. It's so very nice.

Hello Poets, Writers and fellow dreamers
Firstly can I say that Mercury the planet of communication, writing, plans, travel and correspondence is currently retrograde and the alleged error of "Pragitica" is typical. I hope you can amend/re-birth your work in some way.
Angela, I think its wonderful (despite your pain over Pragitica) that you were able to create and get your work out there without the judicial and sometimes savage re-working we do to our work.
Incidentally have you ever sent anything to the Poets Society in London!?

Hi Julia - thanks for the info on Mercury - I can see this affecting the "writing" life as well as plans - amazing! Please update us on these issues, they are big keys to seeing an overall plan, or situation thx. Do you have the address for Poets Soc. in London (not for sending poetry but marketing something.) Do you have connections there??? Thx. Julia I appreciate what you've said about the editing issue but I disagree.. here the heart works first and then the mind balances it off just enough that other hearts/minds are able to enter our world. As I see it, there is no place for hermecy except between writers themselves.. (hermetics evolved in societies where secrets had to be had (politics, religious repression etc..) I see not editing enough as a hermecy.. please disagree and we could have a sweet little debate.. those kind are so uplifting, don't you think?? babel |

Hi Babel et al
Ummm, I'm not sure if I'm agreeing or disagreeing. What I was trying to say was that sometimes with creative work, we can re-hash and pull it apart sometimes too much and in our need to edit we can take away material/words that flowed into the work without our thinking about it, but that can sometimes make the work more powerful/interesting. You know when you write a piece of work and you read it back and think "where did that come from?" but take it out because our conscious mind didn't put it there!?
I think I could be confusing the issue even further...... I agree though that those sweet little debates are uplifting!!
I totally agree that the "heart works first and then the mind balances it off", however with ME, sometimes is can overtake......
Where are we at now!?
Love & light

speaking of poetry, here in the United States we have something called the National Undergraduate Literary Conference where if accepted, you get to read your submissions (poems or essays or stories) to a number of other people who are attending. Also they have a big dinner and a famous published writer speaks about his or her work. I was accepted for the third time. It's an annuel event and I submitted poems for two years in a row and was accepted. And now I am going again :-)
As for editing poetry, I hardly ever edit poetry. Actually almost never. Usually to me, once it's writen, it's written and I'm loathe to change it. Sometimes however I do. :-) |

WHAT IS SYNCHRONICITY? |
Jane Teresa's Explanation |

WHAT IS SYNCHRONICITY?
________
Synchronicity occurs when you experience a coincidence, or several coincidences, that seem so bizarre that you feel they must be meaningful in some way. Some people believe that synchronicities are signs to follow, to lead you to where you are 'meant' to be. My understanding, however, is that not all synchronicities are to be followed, because ... Synchronicities are SYMBOLS of where you're at, not signs to follow.
Synchronicities speak the same symbolic language as dreams. When you experience a synchronicity, you are witnessing a change within yourself, an insight, a birth of something that has been unconscious bubbling up into consciousness. At such times of change we see, all around us, symbols that reflect our shift in perception and self-understanding. This is synchronicity. To understand this fully, and to see why it is not always appropriate to follow synchronicity, you can read my book, THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME. This way you can also discover how to read the synchronicities in your life and how to act on them in positive, life-enhancing ways.
Reality may never feel the same again!
______
P.S.
In Jungian terms all synchronicities begin with a dream. The dream comes first, then the symbol from the dream appears in waking life in ways that seem incredibly meaningful - though, classically, it is hard to understand, consciously, what that meaning is.
This is because the dream is painted by your unconscious mind in advance of your conscious mind 'catching up'. When the insight (unconscious shift) is big, synchronicities follow. What happens is that your incredibly powerful unconscious mind (far more powerful than your conscious mind) manifests its insight physically into your waking life. (You have changed - the world, as you experience it, changes in accordance.)
It usually takes up to a couple of weeks before your conscious mind understands the symbolic dream manifesting in your waking life as synchronicity.
Being human, as we all are, we often forget the original dream but still experience the synchronicities.
There are many excellent reference sources on Jungian synchronicity.
My approach is largely Jungian, but slightly shifted.
Again, if you are seriously in-depth interested, I suggest you read my book "THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME" to understand where I am coming from.
Quite simply, synchronicity is a waking dream and interpreting it as such is immensely enriching.
