Subject: Never ready

Marlene

12:10 03/08/2002

I have been having recurring dreams for more than five years. The actual dream is never the same but there is a common occurrence and the themes are repeated.

The problem is I am NEVER READY in these dreams.

The dream normally involves my wedding, travelling overseas by plane or an awards ceremony or function.

Apart from the travelling dream, the others always focus on a big event where I am the main attraction.

For example in my wedding dreams I am never there on time or I struggle to get to the church as I am still trying to find a dress on the day, or my hair is not done, or I do not have a bouquet of flowers.

The awards ceremony dreams are similar. I am to receive an award but once again I am never ready due to not having the right outfit on or still trying on various dresses for the function.

The travelling dream is always about me not having packed, or not having a ticket, or passport, or I can’t get to the airport due to a transport problem.

The common theme with them all is that I never seem to get there or go through with it due to something holding me back.

Hi Marlene, Consider late as being some of the following; Missing opportunities; undisciplined, irresponsible. Time is of the essence; be ready.

Gidday Marlene

Maybe there is something in there about not achieving the big thing because of too much focus on the small things - or too much attention to detail causing you to miss the big picture.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Marlene, Oobe & Stephen,

That big picture is so easily missed.

Interestingly this kind of dream is often experienced by people who are NEVER late in waking life, always well organised and may even consider themselves to be a bit perfectionist.

The key lays in the big picture. If you are focussed to the point of precision in one area of your life it may well be that another area is lacking attention. In some cases, great attention is given to one area (for example, work) in an unconscious attempt (a brilliant one) to avoid addressing another.

The not-going-through-with-it in your dream may reflect an element of self-sabotage, Marlene. (Pulling the pin at the last moment - in the 'work' example this would translate as the person who suddenly has a huge project on so cannot address another area of life ...)

Hello all

I have to agree with Stephen and Jane on this one.I do pay a lot of attention to detail (mainly work) and my personal and social life does suffer because of this.I must admit I did not think the explanation of it all would be so "obvouis". So what is the message here....ie...why are the dreams repeated? Do I need to pay more attention to other areas of my life perhaps? Give me your views

My experience is that when you take heed of the message, it stops repeating, and when you forget the lessons you've learned, back it will come in another guise.

I have had dreams like yours, Marlene. I typically characterize them as frustrating dreams--not being able to do something I can easily do in real life. I agree with Stephen because problems in real life often reoccur in relationships until the problems are solved. So, why wouldn't this be true in dreams?

Absolutely too.

It depends how many times you want to go round in the same circles ... life is much smoother, much more enjoyable, and, as a spin-off, much more creative, when it is in balance. With that extra creativity you can often convert the long working hours into shorter but smarter ones.
