"Dream Called Life"

Subject: Dream Called Life

This is a waking life synchronicity I thought worth mentioning because I find that my thoughts produce instant synchronicities with increasing frequency. As a result so much delight is added to my experience of every day life.

Today I was standing in a long queue at bank, waiting to deposit some money. My mother was standing behind me.

"Betha" she said "you are going to be here awhile, so I might walk along to the coffee shop and you can meet me there."

That reminded me of something so I told her, speaking softly so no-one else could hear, "I'm thinking of getting everyone to call me Betha, as you have always done."

She chuckled as she looked at me with a question in her eyes. So I told her that the other day I had looked up the meaning of a christian name for someone on the dream forum, and whilst doing that I checked the meaning of Beth. I discovered it was Hebrew for "the house of God".

"I didn't know that" she said.

"However" I continued "I discovered that Betha, which is your special name for me is Celtic for "Life"."

"What" she whispered. I obviously spoke in such hushed tones she didn't hear me.

So I raised my voice a bit as I repeated myself, and simultaneously someone's mobile phone started ringing, the owner of which was standing in front of me.

So I am quite sure everyone in the bank heard me saying very loudly to my mother(who is Scottish) "BETHA IS THE CELTIC NAME FOR LIFE!", just to get above the mobile phone tune which was pealing out with, would you believe it, the tune "Scotland The Brave."

My mother was delighted and commented that whenever she is out with me, these synchronicities are always happening. She said she thought they probably happened all the time, but most people are not aware of it.

I nodded, adding that we experience that sort of awareness more as we become more enlightened. As I said this I notices the big sun symbol painted on the wall in front of me so I said "See the sun there, that is a symbol of enlightenment, and synchronicities I believe are a sort of 5th dimensional experience." I looked down then and saw the the five $50.00 notes fanned out in my hand. The ones I was about to deposit!

Life is like that, eh! What fun.

And I guess that is why this post must be from, BETHA.

Hi Betha,

Fabulous!

Things are just getting Betha and Betha, eh?

Hi Betha

I live for those experiences - the feeling of connection, purpose, the feeling that you are exactly where you're meant to be and that you're on the right path.

Hi Lena, Gloria, Julia! Yes they are great and so is life, even with all it's terrible dramas - I still find life exquisitely beautiful, and yes, mirth-full.

Oh and this is really important. I did not mean to write Fifth Dimension, oh no, I mean fifth element!!

See, ancient Celts, honoured the 4 elements of creation - earth fire air and water, the fifth element was the non-physical energy of creation, perhaps the unknowable creative force, or in contemporary times, we could call it mind, eh? Universal and Personal. The great generator of blue prints.

With love, Beth.

Funny, but my post above was the fifth post!

Coincidence?

re: sun + 5th dimension (in the bank)

The Fifth Dimension sang the best version of 'Aquarius/ Let the Sunshine In'. I bought their greatest hits CD this week on Wednesday (8 Jan.).

I agree with you about synchronicities being "a sort of 5th dimensional experience."

Hi Beth,

When I read your post I decided to be more alert for synchronicities. A little while later I was thinking about a jigsaw puzzle I'm working on as I walked into my bedroom. The radio was on and someone was talking about jigsaw puzzles in relation to cricket!

Beth

00:07 12/01/2003

Thank you so much for that info Guest, much appreciated. It seems my 'slip of the tongue' was synchronous as well. It all adds to the magic.

Lena, it is amazing isn't it. I have noticed that the radio and tv often mirror what I am thinking, and even more startling, will echo a sentence a couple of seconds after I have spoken it to someone! My eyes widen, the person I am speaking to realises what just happened, and then we burst out laughing.

When this first started happening to me, I wasn't sure if I should tell anyone else in case they thought I was experiencing auditory hallucinations. Then I realised that was silly, all who know me, also know I am very grounded and sane.

Lena

12:40 12/01/2003

Hi Beth,

I wondered at the time what cricket had to do with jigsaw puzzles, and then realised that the part of the puzzle I'd just completed was of a boat paddle that looks like a cricket bat!

My husband echoed it again this morning (as if to confirm that I'm not going crazy) by looking at the puzzle and asking "Is that a cricket bat?"

Beth

14:01 12/01/2003

Lena, that's exactly what I wondered about when I read your post! You've answered it already.

And Lena! Have you any thoughts with regard to what is happening here? We have the synchronicity theory, but there is more to it, isn't there?

If all my thoughts (internal) are instantly reflected back to me in the external world. and this is occurring even when I am not aware of it.....or does it only occur when I can be aware of it..

I mean, in my last post "Sea Horses", if the manifestation of the painting of the white horses in the sea, was to draw me back into the importance of my dream??? Well, I had already grasped the power and the beauty of it. I now realise that the words I am now writing are reflecting my belief that everything must have a purpose. This may not be true.

With regard to my dreams regarding water journies and horses, maybe I haven't fully unfolded it. Ummm horse power in the life stream, ummmm......human passion and drive manifesting life.....ummmmm I am a stream of consciousness that can sometimes gallop along powerfully.....ummmm

I feel like I am sitting on the edge of a breakthrough.....

But what about the simple thoughts being instantly manifested, or reflected, at least?

Would Love to weave JT into this post. We don't expect answers JT, truly.

I am really going to think about this...a lot.

Love, Beth.

Hi All,

You know how you can stand with another person in the same space and each see, hear or experience different things? One person may look to the left and see a butterfly the other person doesn't see. Another person may be so absorbed in listening to a conversation that they don't hear the words just played on the radio ... and so on.

Synchronicity is often discounted as being a phenomenon of selective attention. You have an experience about a red triangle and suddenly you see red triangles everywhere because you're on alert for them.

In some cases this can be true - when coincidences span many weeks and have fairly weak connections, they can, I feel, be due to being on alert (in which case I would not call them synchronicities).

BUT ...Real synchronicities, such as the ones you have mentioned here, are more or less instantaneous, often astonishing and always goose-bumpy.

Synchronicities rarely make sense when they occur and this, combined with the goose-bumpy feeling of meaningfulness, can make us feel they are signs from the heavens - "follow this path .." I do not believe this to be the case and my experiences and those I have watched through the eyes of others, would tend to confirm this.

I have seen people "follow" synchronicities and end up chasing their tails. Just as often they follow them and things turn out fantastically well - but ...

My view is that we experience the world as we believe it to be - consciously AND unconsciously.

When our beliefs change - so does our experience of the world.

When our UNCONSCIOUS beliefs change it can be a while before our conscious mind 'catches up'. What we often experience is a changed world - a shift that signals a sense of deep meaning (simply because, unconsciously we DO get the meaning) but which we can't for the life of us bend our conscious minds around - yet.

When unconscious beliefs change, it usually takes a few days to a couple of weeks before the conscious mind fully translates the 'different me' into something it can understand and put words to. In the gap, we often experience synchronicities.

Think of the synchronicities (like Beth's white horses) as symbols of the unconscious shift manifesting in waking life. By the time the conscious mind has got the measure of what 'white horses' mean, the white horses stop manifesting and the new understanding of how the world is takes its place.

For example, if "white horses" is Beth's unconscious symbol for "pure passion" then she may encounter white horses for up to a couple of weeks while her unconscious and conscious minds begin to synchronise and 'agree' that Beth has shifted ground on "pure passion".

Beth might come to the conclusion, seemingly "out of the blue", that she wants to do something in life simply because she suddenly experiences "pure passion" (or, to the contrary, that "pure passion" has got her into a recurring situation and it's time to do things in a different way).

(Beth - of course your dream informs you of your personal meaning for white horses - this is simply an example.)

So - yes, I agree - we manifest our total experience of waking life, moment by moment, and so waking life is a neverending kaleidoscope picture reflecting our conscious and unconscious views. When a big shift occurs (when the kaleidoscope is shaken) a recurring symbol (a synchronicity) may be evident for a while until we settle down and understand the world in a new way because we pay attention to understanding the symbolism of the synchronicity.

To borrow Lena's theme - life may be a big jigsaw puzzle and the search for meaning may be one of searching for all the puzzle pieces, but the extra dimension is that the picture keeps changing.

To answer your question, Beth - are simple thoughts instantly manifested? My reply: where do the simple thoughts come from (before they manifest)?

I'm grinning Jane Teresa..Your last question "Where do simple thoughts come from before they manifest" was responded to by the instant arrival of a fish swimming into my mind's eye. This may be a symbolic key, for me, however I will resist interpreting it right now in favour of examining the process.

The fish arrived in my mind's eye by itself, in response to your question.

So where did it come from, this mental fish form that thought itself into existence?

It came from a completely unconscious mind process. It came from out of the deep (just like dreams), no wonder it was delivered as a fish.

It manifested itself, into conscious awareness, a picture that can speak a thousand words about thoughts and where they come from!

I could go on and on because that one simple fish thought, is already promising to grow into a whale!

But I am telling myself to stop here, and simply answer your question.

Did I?

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts JT. This is like nectar for me.

You are right re my white horse water images...all to do with waiting to catch and ride that incredible energy surge, to go in the direction that is already clear in my mind. I can already feel it coursing in my veins, life force/inspiration or more likely inspiritation! Oh to run with the power of my spirit horses! Energy breaking through into action.

It will be here any moment, maybe tomorrow morning...

Love, Beth.

Beth

21:33 13/01/2003

My spirit horses didn't arrive to whisk me into action this morning, as hoped for.

So, here goes, I am going to have to inspire myself to action by making the time for myself to dive into the river and just keep on swimming.

I am telling myself that the journey begins with the first step or stroke, followed by the second, and the third and before I know it - I will have arrived at my destination!

Thank you Beth and Jane for this very informative discourse. Just last Friday I had a deep philosophical discussion with a friend about where thoughts come from and how they manifest into something like e.g. a book, or even the Taj Mahal.

In the beginning was the word, but even before the word was the thought. We, as the peak of evolution (?), think of ourselves as form manifesting thought but in reality we are thought manifesting form. It's a hard concept to grasp for a mere mortal such as I.

Love, Gloria

Lena

14:10 14/01/2003

Hi All,

Thank you JT for your input. I've been trying to grasp the concept of synchronicity and you explain it so well.

Gloria - I've been thinking along the same lines as you and had come to the conclusion that most people think that we are a body with a spirit when in fact we're a spirit with a body (temporarily).

Beth - your words "I feel like I am sitting on the edge of a breakthrough..... " echo a sentiment from a conversation I wrote this morning between "Broken glass" and a "Ticket to Ride". Broken Glass said "You just don't see where you/we are at the moment. We are on a knife's edge and we haven't found the balance we need. We can do that by constantly reminding ourselves that everything we see is an illusion, a symbol for something ..."

Hmmm....

Love, Lena

WHAT IS
SYNCHRONICITY?

Jane Teresa's Explanation

Jane Teresa Anderson

WHAT IS SYNCHRONICITY?

________

Synchronicity occurs when you experience a coincidence, or several coincidences, that seem so bizarre that you feel they must be meaningful in some way.

Some people believe that synchronicities are signs to follow, to lead you to where you are 'meant' to be. My understanding, however, is that not all synchronicities are to be followed, because ...

Synchronicities are SYMBOLS of where you're at, not signs to follow.

Synchronicities speak the same symbolic language as dreams.

When you experience a synchronicity, you are witnessing a change within yourself, an insight, a birth of something that has been unconscious bubbling up into consciousness.

At such times of change we see, all around us, symbols that reflect our shift in perception and self-understanding. This is synchronicity.

To understand this fully, and to see why it is not always appropriate to follow synchronicity, you can read my book, THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME. This way you can also discover how to read the synchronicities in your life and how to act on them in positive, life-enhancing ways.

Reality may never feel the same again!

______

P.S.

In Jungian terms all synchronicities begin with a dream.

The dream comes first, then the symbol from the dream appears in waking life in ways that seem incredibly meaningful - though, classically, it is hard to understand, consciously, what that meaning is.

This is because the dream is painted by your unconscious mind in advance of your conscious mind 'catching up'. When the insight (unconscious shift) is big, synchronicities follow.

What happens is that your incredibly powerful unconscious mind (far more powerful than your conscious mind) manifests its insight physically into your waking life. (You have changed - the world, as you experience it, changes in accordance.)

It usually takes up to a couple of weeks before your conscious mind understands the symbolic dream manifesting in your waking life as synchronicity.

Being human, as we all are, we often forget the original dream but still experience the synchronicities.

There are many excellent reference sources on Jungian synchronicity.

My approach is largely Jungian, but slightly shifted.

Again, if you are seriously in-depth interested, I suggest you read my book "THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME" to understand where I am coming from.

Quite simply, synchronicity is a waking dream and interpreting it as such is immensely enriching.

Jane Teresa Anderson

"Synchronicity is a waking dream ...

... and interpreting it as such
is immensely enriching."
