Subject: what does it mean to see somones ears, a colleague

I was moving to another room, changing my job, and I saw the ears of a man, a fellow worker. They looked sharp, pointy like elves’ ears.

To help you with understanding your dream, we'll need to know the answers to a couple of questions:

1. How would you describe this fellow worker's personality?

2. How did you feel, in the dream, when you saw these ears?

1.Its hard to say, he is clever, + I'd say hes also a loner.

2. I noticed the ears, and asked myself why his ears were pointy ?, the tips of his ears looked very sharp. My feelings were basically why are his ears pointy, why am I seeing his ears? (Ive never had a dream which has focused on the ears of anyone, this a new one for me)

Hi Moondews,

Focussing on ears in a dream may symbolise what you need to hear.

Your dream features change and moving, so start by asking yourself where you might need to move/ change in your life or where you have already started making changes.

Then look at what you might need to hear (that you are not hearing right now) to assist you in making these changes.

You see this man as clever and his ears as very sharp. A beautiful play on words, as to be very clever is also to be very sharp.

You also described the ears as pointy - "get the point" perhaps?

However you also see this man as a loner.

The man represents your own beliefs and experiences.

What role has being a loner played in your life? (You may be a loner or be quite the opposite because of your experiences of loners.)

Are you using all of your own cleverness in making changes in your life, or do you hold back for fear that being seen to be clever/ sharp will leave you as a bit of a loner - for example?

Hi Jane

Sorry, but these are not my experiences, Im not a loner, but he is, Im aware of things, but not like an alert dr spock lookalike!

He is just a colleague, and in the dream I was in the process of moving my job and the place I live, but then I didn't see the ears or faces of anyone else except him.

I have a feeling the dream for some reason is more about him than me.Thought I can't see why.

with thanks moondews

Hi Moondews,

Whenever we dream of someone else, the dream is always about us, not them.

Consider Jane Teresa's questions again to see if something occurs to you this time.

Sorry I just don't agree. The dream can also be about someone else, not necessarily us.

cheers :)

Hi guest, This may be completly off the wall but I keep thinking of the Lord of The Rings movies and the elves with their pointy ears. Mean anything?

Good luck.

So do I! No its not off the wall at all. Im positive the dream is saying something about him, just don't know what!

I swear too the ears reminded me of elves, but thats because Ive read the hobbit and watched the LOR films.

Im not saying that this colleague is an elf or anything like that!

Maybe he does magic or something like that ?!

Other than that, I can't explain why his ears were sharp at the top and pointed.

Maybe hes increasing his hearing abilities or eavesdropping on anything he can hear, or even (gasp) bugging my office, so he knows where Im moving to for my next job.

Hi Moondew, I think I know where you are coming from. I had a dream once which alerted me to the fact that I had an intuitive feeling about a particular person that I wasn't paying attention to.

He wasn't evil or anything like that, but I was intuiting that he had controlling tendencies and I at that time was particularly drawn to controlling men. Although the issue was ultimately mine, nevertheless, I needed to be very careful around this person.

Trust your intuition, but be aware that the dream may be exaggerating this person's tendencies or traits to get your attention.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gloria,

Yes that helps very much, I shall have to be more careful of what I say around this man, just in case he intereferes with things, and mucks it up for me!

thank you :)

Hi moondews,

In psychotherapy we learn that Dreams are NEVER about someone else!

Why?

Because our dreams are from our subconscious - and our subconscious speaks a completely different language to our ego- based conscious self.

It speaks in symbols, signs, metaphors and co-incidence.

When some aspects are represented by another person animal or even an object in our dream - negative feelings about that person animal or object are a dead giveaway that we have "disowned" that aspect in ourselves.

This is because our dreams don't teach us 'how to change others' - but teach us even without conscious interference to develop and grow. It's OUR psychic development our dreams pertain to. In wholeness we recognise that we can be all things - good, bad and all things in between. But when we are in denial of some of our on shadow aspects - the only way our psyche can bring these opportunities for wholeness to our attention is to 'send us' in both dreams and in real life people who reflect back to us parts of ourselves.

Thus it is that when you lack trust - you will meet untrustworthy people. When you deeply trust youself - other people automatically sense it as an internal powersource - and will treat you accordingly.

When you have issues of control where the locus of control is external to YOU - outside of yourself (as in your worries about this "other man") life will always be difficult to manage - other people events and circumstance will always dictate your actions. People will be good or bad - depending on how you experience them when of course that is merely a subjective judgement!

Our dreams are there to teach us to have an internal locus of control - by showing us the symbols and giving us the opportunity to 'take back' our wholeness.

With externalised locus of control - as you are suggesting - you have no real power in your life when anything an everything can influence your beliefs - with internalised locus of control - your life is more dynamic - because you have more CHOICE.

I was struck by the co-incidence of your man with pointy ears and listening - and your own insistence that your deam was about'someone else'. If this was MY dream and be wondering what I need to hear - what is being POINTED out?

Study and notice your colleague by all means - but alway be aware that as featured in your dream he is a SYMBOL - a metaphor -in true dream launguage - a call to wholeness if you like.
