OVERVIEW INTERPRETATION
Hi Linda,
In waking life you avoid eye contact with this man, but you do not make it clear why. Do you want to get to know him but you’re shy? Or is he definitely not your type? When you say you avoid eye contact “for some reason”, I take it you are interested in him on some level.
It’s important to work out what he represents in your dream. So far he could represent your religion (the reference to the temple), your shyness or your avoidance of eye contact.
Which three words would you use to describe his personality or approach to life? Write them down. For example, you might write: open, religious, disciplined. Then write down the opposites to these three words, in this example: closed, not religious, undisciplined. It is likely that some of those six words describe you and the issues your dream is addressing.
In your dream you are avoiding contact with this man, even though you seem to want to run into him. Now that you have worked out what he represents to you, you have named the issue you are avoiding. For example, if you have decided that he represents issues of sharing (open, closed) then your dream may be reflecting how you avoid looking at your deeper feelings and experiences around sharing. That was simply an example, though it could fit with your dream.
In your dream your family is being open and generous. Everyone was welcome to join you and eat your food. Indeed, people could eat all they wanted. There was no limit to your family’s generosity and sharing.
You are then with your mother in the kitchen. The kitchen is possibly the centre of nurturing and giving, as is the mother. But the moment you have the opportunity to meet with this man, you avoid eye contact yet again by suddenly having to go out. You sabotage the possibility of getting what you want!
The opposites presented by your dream seem to be: you can have all you want versus you avoid having what you want.
Everyone in a dream represents something about the dreamer. In your dream you are struggling between sharing and not sharing, contacting and not contacting. Are you frightened of sharing your ideas, thoughts and feelings with others? Why? What is there to lose? Have you felt hurt through sharing in the past?
You will find it helpful to read pages 233-234 (on self sabotage) in Dream Alchemy.
DREAM ALCHEMY PRACTICE
Affirmation:
Here’s an affirmation using your dream symbols:
“I share an abundant feast. The perfect nourishment I receive is equal to the perfect nourishment I give.”
How to use your affirmation/ and how often:
Say your affirmation out loud and with feeling 30 times a day for the first week. From the second week say your affirmation out loud and with feeling once in the morning and once before you go to sleep for three more weeks.
How does this work?
This works by communicating directly with your unconscious mind using its own language, to transform the belief your dream is revealing.
