'Blue & Yellow Sunset'
Feeling
The Picture
Your feeling reactions to a dream are keys to its interpretation. These are my feelings. If this were a scene in your dream or life, how would you feel about being there?
More than anything else I feel the
contrast between the blue and yellow. The yellow is smooth, vivid but calm, homogeneous,
'enlightened'. The yellow has performed its task well and so now it moves on, calmly
resolved in its evening wisdom, to its next journey beyond the horizon.
The blue is mingled with almost dark clouds,
about to slip unresolved into the sleep of night.
The clouds feel mildly troubled. I feel a sense
of the unknown 'hanging in the air' in the clouds. As the sun sets they will become the
dreams of the night sky, billowing larger perhaps, maybe storming, or raining relief or
simply just blowing away. What will be the result of their dreaming? I feel a mixture of
anticipation and faith in the outcome.
The sea and the cliffs give me a feeling of
constancy, assuredness: all will be well.
The Symbols
Symbols in your dreams often relate to your personal memories and associations, so always consider those first. Then let your mind play with other, more general possibilities. They will not all apply! Just open your mind and notice where the symbol seems to fit and make sense of the rest of your dream.
The sky often represents the mind: our thoughts,
seemingly without form and yet tangible. Clouds may symbolise what is 'cloudy' in our
thoughts. Since clouds are formed from water and water generally represents the emotions,
they can symbolise emotional issues clouding our thinking. Anger will often present as
dark, thunderous clouds in dreams. Grey clouds may serve to indicate depression. Light,
puffy clouds may represent light, puffy thoughts. Storm clouds may appear in dreams as
warnings as our anger or fear of future developments cloud our thinking. Clouds may turn
to rain, to release the emotion or to deluge us in the emotional issue making it harder
still to see ahead. Ultimately rain is cleansing and the sky becomes clearer.
Colours may have different personal significance
for different people. Your feelings about a certain colour are the most important ones
when it comes to interpreting your dreams. Otherwise blue can symbolise the 5th chakra
(the throat: communication and healing) or perhaps act as a pun on 'feeling blue'. Yellow
can symbolise the 3rd chakra (the solar plexus: understanding, clarity, enlightenment).
The sun often symbolises the conscious self as
does the day, leaving the moon and the night to symbolise the unconscious. The sun can
also represent the male side, the Yang, while the moon can be the female side, the Yin.
The ocean often appears as the great unconscious and land as the conscious self. Cliffs
can represent the line between the conscious and unconscious self: and perhaps the
'jumping off point' (the leap of faith?) or the lookout (the vantage point) between the
two.
The Questions
Here are some questions the dreamer of such a dream picture might ask to work towards a complete understanding of the dream.
Try these yourself: just give your 'gut reaction' answers to the questions - your answers will surprise you in the insights they deliver. The key thing to remember is, "Don't THINK about your answers - give quick gut reaction replies". Your unconscious will deliver.
If this process can work powerfully for this image, consider how infinitely more powerful the insights are when the image comes from one of your own dreams - direct from your unconscious!
* Why is the sky more prominent than the sea and the cliff?
* What issue is prominently in my thoughts at the moment?
* What issue feels recently resolved, giving me a sense of completion and wisdom?
* If this new wisdom is like the setting sun, is it an issue I no longer need to think
about or should I think about following this new wisdom beyond my present horizons to
enter into a new journey?
* What do the clouds feel like to me? What is the situation in my life now which feels
like these clouds?
* What do the sea and the cliff feel like to me? Why are they so small compared to the sky
in my dream picture?
* What is the situation in my life now which gives me the same feeling as the sea and the
cliff in the picture?
* If I were the dream-maker, supplying the happy endings, how would I resolve the cloud
situation during the night's dream?
* How can I apply this happy dream ending to the things which need to be resolved in my
life right now?
