Feeling The Picture
Your feeling reactions to a dream are keys to its interpretation. These are my feelings. If this were a scene in your dream or life, how would you feel about being there?
I feel a sense of the ancient in this gold-silver symbol, as if it is a hieroglyph from a long disused language trying to speak to me. I feel unity yet separateness. I feel blessed by this special vision.
The Symbols
Symbols in your dreams often relate to your personal memories and associations, so always consider those first. Then let your mind play with other, more general possibilities. They will not all apply! Just open your mind and notice where the symbol seems to fit and make sense of the rest of your dream.
This depends on what you see in this image!
The best way to approach a surreal image presented in a dream, is to write a five-minute, gut-reaction poem. The idea is to set a timer for five minutes and write so fast that your logical left brain is bypassed. The resulting poem may look nonsensical or childish but it will probably reveal what you need to know. Your right brain and your unconscious mind write the gut-reaction poem, and, since these are the very authors of your dream, they are likely to reveal the meaning of your unique dream symbol.
Here's the start of mine:
Gold and silver
Not so far apart
Silver is one step away from gold
An alchemical step
A perfecting step
Many steps from the base metal that
Began it all.
Entwined , together, separate.
Gold springs from the base
And remembers its origins
So stays entwined
Touching base.
Never forgetting the anchor, the seed.
Two heads are not better than one
They are
One.
Now it's your turn. Start the timer, look at the image and then - just start writing!
The Questions
Here are some questions the dreamer of such a dream picture might ask to work towards a complete understanding of the dream.
Try these yourself: just give your 'gut reaction' answers to the questions - your answers will surprise you in the insights they deliver. The key thing to remember is, "Don't THINK about your answers - give quick gut reaction replies". Your unconscious will deliver.
If this process can work powerfully for this image, consider how infinitely more powerful the insights are when the image comes from one of your own dreams - direct from your unconscious!
- Imagine standing in front of this symbol. How big is it?
- Imagine touching it. What does it feel like?
- Touch the gold, then the silver. Describe the different feelings you get for each.
- What are the two oval shapes? (Let your gut-reaction answer if you have no ready reply.)
- Is there a particular energy, do you feel, associated with the oval on the left?
- Name that energy.
- Is there an energy associated with the oval on the right?
- Name that energy.
- Look at your answer to Q6. When was the last time you felt this energy present in your waking life?
- What event or person do you associate with your answer to Q9?
- Look at your answer to Q8. When was the last time you felt this energy present in your waking life?
- What event or person do you associate with your answer to Q11?
- Think about the two events, people or energies you have named between Q5 and Q11. What is the common ground between them?
- If you have no answer for Q13, it may be because the two events, people or energies are in conflict with each other - as far as it seems to you. How could you solve the conflict for the higher good of all concerned?
- Look at your answer to Q13 or to Q14. What situation in your waking life now does this remind you of?
- How can you apply your answer to Q14 to your answer to Q15?
- What first step can you take towards doing this?
