Feeling The Picture

Your feeling reactions to a dream are keys to its interpretation. These are my feelings. If this were a scene in your dream or life, how would you feel about being there?

I feel disorientated because this scene seems more like a painting than a place. I feel curious about the doors but caution begins at the thought of stepping into this scene. I feel the pull of the unknown and the vibrancy of the over-ripe colour but if I enter this scene my world will change. I will become a part of the painting. I will feel surreal. My feet will float above the ground. I will have lost touch with the world I know. This could be an adventure. I feel undecided.

The Symbols

Symbols in your dreams often relate to your personal memories and associations, so always consider those first. Then let your mind play with other, more general possibilities. They will not all apply! Just open your mind and notice where the symbol seems to fit and make sense of the rest of your dream.

Doors often represent opportunities. But what lies on the other side? Closed doors present you with choice. You can open them to walk towards an opportunity or to let an opportunity come to you. You can close a door to keep something out or in.

There are two doors here. You may see one as being on the left and one on the right. They could symbolise your left and right brain. They may represent your inner and outer worlds.

The ‘exit’ signals a way out. A way out of what?

The surreal quality of the image may symbolise a feeling of disconnectedness, or a shift in your perception of life.

Or is this painting a kind of still life? Could it symbolise a feeling of being frozen in time?

Do you see this image as lacking depth and dimension? Could this symbolise a feeling within you?

The Questions

Here are some questions the dreamer of such a dream picture might ask to work towards a complete understanding of the dream.

Try these yourself: just give your 'gut reaction' answers to the questions - your answers will surprise you in the insights they deliver. The key thing to remember is, "Don't THINK about your answers - give quick gut reaction replies". Your unconscious will deliver.

If this process can work powerfully for this image, consider how infinitely more powerful the insights are when the image comes from one of your own dreams - direct from your unconscious!

  1. What are the white verticals to either side of these doors?

  2. What is the black area in the middle band of the image?

  3. What is the green area in front of the doors?

  4. If you had to open one door –and only one door- which would you choose?

  5. Why?

  6. What is behind this door?

  7. What is behind the other door?

  8. Are either of the doors locked?

  9. If so, why?

  10. How do you feel about this?

  11. Do you have keys?

  12. Look at the EXIT sign. Exiting from what?

  13. Exiting to where?

  14. Imagine the door on the left opening. What happens next?

  15. Imagine the door on the right opening. What happens next?

  16. Where do you feel safest in this image?

  17. Why?

  18. What is the challenge in this image?

  19. Why?

  20. How do you feel about taking the challenge?

  21. How do you feel about NOT taking the challenge?

  22. Where do you choose to be in this image?

  23. Why?

  24. What situation in your waking life does this remind you of?

  25. What do you fear in this image?

  26. What do you love in this image?

  27. How can you improve this image?

  28. How can you improve your waking life?
