I recently read that coffee expands your consciousness by decreasing your focus and opening you up to a greater awareness of your surroundings. Maybe that’s why a cup of coffee can trigger new ideas and fresh perspectives. How many times have you stepped away from a work project, challenge, or issue to take time out over a coffee that delivered an unexpected solution when all you were looking for was a bit of time out?
There’s a parallel with dream work here. Since dreams reveal our unconscious beliefs and patterns, they help to give us a greater awareness of our being by decreasing – at least for the duration that we are pondering a dream – our focus on waking life issues. Exploring dreams triggers fresh perspectives that can deliver unexpected solutions to those things we focus on in our waking lives.
